Today we’d like to introduce you to Shanxi Omoniyi.
Hi Shanxi, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My story owes a huge amount to homeschooling, which enjoys a large following in Kansas City. I graduated from KU with journalism and English degrees. After several years as a newspaper copy editor and online content manager, I started my own digital marketing business, Wordspire LLC. I also work and volunteer with Midwest Parent Educators (MPE), a homeschool nonprofit in Kansas City.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One struggle has been learning to juggle homeschooling (a full-time job in itself) alongside my digital marketing career.
I’ve needed to learn and relearn time management strategies that work in different life seasons, including parenthood with babies and toddlers!
However, the benefits have far outweighed the struggles in terms of work-life balance, a strong family, and being present with my children as they grow.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
One of my favorite childhood memories involves extended family dinners. Delicious food was (and is!) a wonderful tradition handed down through many of my Asian relatives.
While we ate all kinds of world cuisines, we enjoyed learning life skills around food as well. As children, we’d be involved in every stage from meal preparation (I still remember honing my signature “guacamole recipe” as an 8-year-old) all the way to eating and cleanup.
