Life & Work with Reca Miles of Kansas City, MO

Today we’d like to introduce you to Reca Miles.

Hi Reca, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My journey into entrepreneurship and launching A Taste of Bliss Sweet Shop is really rooted in my belief that you can and should create opportunities for yourself. My background is actually in recruiting, where I spent years helping others find the right roles and build their careers. I loved being part of those success stories, but over time, I realized I wanted to build something of my own something that combined my creativity, my love for sweets, and my desire to bring people joy.

The skills I gained in recruiting like understanding people, staying organized, and working under pressure helped me tremendously as I transitioned into entrepreneurship.

A Taste of Bliss is more than just a sweet shop, it’s about creating moments of happiness. Every treat is made with intention, and every product reflects the joy I hope to share with others. This journey has been anything but easy, but stepping out and betting on myself has been one of the most rewarding decisions I’ve ever made.
Our next mission is to launch the Blissful Birthday Foundation, a project that’s really close to our hearts. We want to bring birthday joy to kids from low-income families who can’t afford a party, as well as kids with disabilities who may not have the chance to celebrate the way they deserve.
We’re creating a party truck that will bring the party right to them, complete with cake, decorations, and all the fun! Every kid deserves to feel special on their birthday, and we’re determined to make that happen.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. Starting and growing A Taste of Bliss Sweet Shop has come with its fair share of challenges. One of the biggest struggles has been overcoming self-doubt. When you’re starting something new especially when you’re stepping into a completely different industry, it’s easy to second-guess yourself. I’ve had moments where I questioned whether I was making the right decision, or whether I was good enough to turn this passion into a real business.

Another major challenge has been staying consistent, especially when the results aren’t immediate. There’s a lot that goes on behind the scenes: the long nights, the trial and error with recipes, the slow days where you wonder if it’s all worth it. But I’ve learned that consistency is everything. Even when it feels like no one’s watching, you have to keep showing up.

I’ve also had to grow through learning the business side of things, managing inventory, marketing, customer service, and all the moving parts that come with running a brand. It’s been a learning curve, but every struggle has taught me something valuable and made me stronger as both a business owner and a person.

What keeps me going is remembering why I started: to create something of my own, to share joy through sweets, and to prove to myself that I could do it even when the path wasn’t clear

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’ve spent over 10 years as a recruiter, helping individuals find meaningful careers by connecting them with opportunities that align with their skills and goals. I’ve always taken pride in being someone who sees potential in people sometimes before they even see it in themselves. While I’ve excelled in that space, over time, I realized my passion was evolving.

Now, I’m channeling that same passion through a different lens. With A Taste of Bliss Sweet Shop, I’ve found a new love in helping people not only land jobs, but recognize how their skills and experiences can be used to create their own opportunities — just like I did. Whether it’s through entrepreneurship, creative expression, or simply betting on themselves, I want to inspire people to believe in the possibilities beyond traditional paths.

As for the shop itself, we specialize in handcrafted sweets that are made with care and a personal touch. It’s more than just desserts; it’s about delivering a moment of joy, a sense of comfort, and a little taste of bliss in every bite.

What sets me apart is my ability to blend heart and strategy. I bring the same intention I had as a recruiter into this business seeing people, understanding them, and creating something meaningful. I’m most proud of taking that leap into something new, even when it was uncomfortable, and building a brand that reflects both who I am and who I continue to grow into.”
