Life & Work with Rashadat Jangudov of Olathe

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rashadat Jangudov.

Hi Rashadat, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My name is Rashadat Jangudov. I was born in Azerbaijan. I am a professional magician. Since childhood, I have had a special interest in a magic tricks. I, just like many children, believed in miracles. Gradually this love turned into a desire to perform magic and surprise my friends. I have always watched a surprise show by one of the famous magicians in Azerbaijan, Tofig Isganderli. Then I promised myself that when I grew up, I would find him so that he would teach me how to do magic. Years have passed. I was admitted to Baku State University in 2008. I found Tofig Isganderli, and our friendship continues to this day. He taught me a lot about magic. I worked hard on myself. I learned every day new techniques and secrets, magic tricks. I have already started performing in clubs at university parties and so on. One day I got a phone call from one of the most popular showmen in Azerbaijan. He asked me to come to show magic in his live TV show. I was so excited. I did not expect that he would find me on social networks. The broadcast went well. In 2013 I participated in the International Magic Convention in Ukraine and became the winner of stage magic. Then in 2014, I was in Talent Show in Turkey. I worked as a magician in Dubai. In 2018 I moved with my family to the USA.

Here I became a lifetime member of the Society of American Magicians. Right now, I am a full-time magician. I have my tricks-based program, which is different from other conversation-based shows. My Happy Magic show is appropriate for all age ranges; all tricks are safe and designed to mystify but also to engage everyone while making them laugh. There are a variety of magic tricks, and all of the shows include a lot of audience participation. There will be a lot of comedy, things disappear and reappear, and you won’t feel how time flies as it is the compliment we get the most from our audience about the show! Our show usually goes for around 35 mins for a kid’s party.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Of course, my path was challenging; if you look around, you will see many teachers, doctors, engineers, etc. But there are only so many magicians. Becoming a magician is very difficult. I have spent years in this way and, of course, a lot of money 🙂 All seminars are paid for, and they are quite expensive. And the greatest difficulty for me, as well as for many migrants, was insufficient knowledge of English. In parallel with magic, I intensively worked on my English. Now almost everything is going well.

Thanks for sharing that. You could tell us more about your work.
Now I am a professional magician with more than 13 years of experience. I love to surprise people. We all want to believe in miracles. But they do exist. They are close. You have to touch them—my genre is the illusion of mentalism, i.e., mind reading and telekinesis. Mentalism is very closely related to human psychology. I also love children. I love when I perform their magic. Sometimes kids find the secret of some tricks which adults even guess:) Working with kids is much more difficult than with an adult audience.

Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
I want to create a great entertainment team. When a client needed an entertainment program for a party, he could find everything from us. I am sure Happy Magic will become a favorite brand of all events.
