Life & Work with Morgan James of Blue Springs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Morgan James.

Morgan James

Hi Morgan, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for sharing your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
As a kid, I loved taking photos. My mom was our family’s photographer, ensuring all birthdays, holidays, vacations, and sports were captured on film. This seems fantastic, but I’ve realized my mom only shows up in a few photos because she was behind the camera, not in front. I started doing photography for the sole purpose of making sure all family members were included in the memories. My love for taking photos blossomed from there. When I was in college, my boyfriend, now my husband, got himself a camera for car events that we participated in. After using his camera more than he got to, I bought myself my first real camera, a Nikon D3400. It’s this beautiful glossy red, and I love how perfectly it fits in my hands. When I first got it, I started taking photos at car shows, then switched to landscape and lifestyle photography. I now primarily do lifestyle photos but occasionally switch to landscape in a new place. I love to do photos that represent big moments in people’s lives, like seniors, engagements, and weddings. I also do family photos and hope to get a maternity session booked (my first one). I also love pet photography because pets are only with us for so long, but they hold such big parts of our hearts that I want to capture their love. Since college, I have started my photography business and am slowly getting my name out there. I can’t wait to see what the future holds for me.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
As a new business, it has been a pretty smooth road. I have yet to come across any bumps. I’m still fairly new, and getting my name out in the community is hard when I am still trying to build my business. I am a perfectionist, which comes in handy when editing, but I also feel like I am still learning, which leads to me not being fully confident in my editing style. I am building my portfolio and my confidence in photo editing. I can’t wait to see where my future leads as I grow more confident.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in lifestyle photography. This includes seniors, couples, engagements, weddings, families, pets, and maternity sessions. I am most proud of my engagement sessions so far. Being able to show the love between 2 people in a photo is something I enjoy capturing. I also love car and landscape photography since that is what I started doing. I have a passion for connecting with people and capturing memories for years to come. I believe in collecting memories in photographs that you can enjoy years later.

Are any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
I love Instagram for photography uses. I can get inspiration and share my photos with people from all around. I only use a few books or podcasts for my business, but I will look into some to see how they can help me grow.
