Today we’d like to introduce you to Matthew Carver.
Hi Matthew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey with Ronson Machine & Manufacturing is really a story about humble beginnings, hard work, and a commitment to building something that lasts. The company started long before I ever imagined I’d be the one leading it. In 1989, my father, Terry Carver, purchased a small sheet metal shop that occupied just 20,000 square feet. It wasn’t glamorous, and it certainly wasn’t easy, but what it lacked in size it made up for in grit, craftsmanship, and a belief that quality and integrity could build a business one customer at a time.
I grew up around this company—around the sound of machines running, around people who took pride in what they built, around a culture that valued doing things the right way. After my service in the Marine Corps, I found myself increasingly drawn to the work and the people behind it. Eventually, as my father, Terry Carver, retired, it has come to feel like a passing of legacy, responsibility, and trust.
Since then, I’ve been focused on growing Ronson carefully and thoughtfully. What started as that 20,000 square foot shop has now expanded into a 150,000+ square foot facility. We’ve invested in new technology, broadened our capabilities, and deepened our relationships with OEM customers who rely on us for precision, consistency, and on-time delivery.
But even with all the growth, I’m proud that we’ve never lost sight of who we are: a team of hardworking people who care about building quality products and standing behind our word. The path hasn’t always been smooth — we’ve faced economic downturns, supply chain challenges, and the pressure to constantly evolve — but each challenge has forced us to sharpen our focus and strengthen the company.
What motivates me every day is knowing that the work we do matters to the customers who trust us and to the employees who depend on this company for their livelihood. I’m proud of the legacy my father started, proud of the team we’ve built, and proud of the direction we’re heading. Ronson isn’t just a manufacturing company — it’s a generational story rooted in family, craftsmanship, and the belief that if you take care of your people and your customers, the rest will follow.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like most manufacturing companies, our path hasn’t always been smooth. In our early years, we were working out of a 20,000-square-foot facility with limited equipment and a very small team. As demand grew, we had to scale quickly while still maintaining the level of quality our OEM customers expect. The transition to a much larger 150,000-square-foot facility brought its own challenges—from workforce development to investing in new technology and refining our processes for higher-volume work. We’ve also navigated shifts in the economy, supply chain disruptions, and changing customer requirements. Each challenge pushed us to improve, and ultimately made us a stronger, more adaptable company.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We’re a custom sheet metal manufacturer, but at our core, we’re problem-solvers. Whether a customer needs a single prototype or thousands of precision parts, we specialize in taking their vision and turning it into something real. Our team handles laser cutting, forming, machining, welding, and assembly under one roof, which gives us tighter control over quality and lead times. Customers trust us not just because we can make the part, but because they know we’ll stand behind it.
Can you share something surprising about yourself?
We have quite the creative team here at Ronson and have dedicated time to various charity and art projects around Kansas City. We do everything from making creative art installations to signage for local charities, we support many military charities and even sponsor local scholarships for students!
