Life & Work with Marlon Jones

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marlon Jones.

Hi, Marlon. We are so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my creative journey in my first year in college. I became interested in the arts and actively engaged with other creatives. I attended school to become a biochemist, surrounded by creatives who dabbled in music, photography, modeling, videography, etc. My college roommate was a vocal performance major, and I just happened to be a singer. I had produced a few of my songs before college, but nothing that I was incredibly proud of. I was shy initially, but I have him to thank for pulling me out of my shell and taking the time to help me find my comfort in singing. I now have multiple albums streaming as an independent artist, and I still get so much joy from creating new songs. On the other hand, my best friend was a media major, and they began showing me the ropes of photography. Around this time, I was recruited to the school magazine team as the sports and event photographer. After graduation, I was gifted a Canon camera as a gift. I then began to do photoshoots with my clients, usually close friends or family. As of now, my creativity continues to expand through my musical endeavors. Although a small independent artist, I enjoy doing dramatic promotions, album release parties, signing posters, shooting music videos, etc. While my music is all very personal to me, I love to see when others can relate to or enjoy a song of mine.

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
While I love making music and telling my story, I sometimes find it hard to find the drive to do so. Maintaining the motivation to create music is something I have struggled with for a while. I sometimes extend myself to so many other creative outlets that I neglect the ones I care for the most. For example, I’ll write a song, then move to make a TikTok, then I’ll model for a music video, then I’ll write 3 pages in my journal, then I’ll book a photo shoot with my cousin. It’s a constant flux because my mind needs to stay active. When I have a second to get back to the song, the emotion behind it won’t be the same, so the song is either scrapped or rewritten. Thankfully, not many other challenges arise; I have to learn to use my motivation in the moment or potentially lose it.

I appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Overall, I am a diverse content creator. I create reels, TikTok, and videos that showcase all my talents. Talents include my voice, photography skills, modeling endeavors, music-producing skills, comedic/acting abilities, cooking, a job as a chemist, lifestyle, and more. I am mostly known for my vast social media presence. People have noticed me from random TikToks that have gone viral, YouTube videos, Facebook posts, etc. I am most proud of my impact on people’s lives via my social platforms/music. Knowing that I made someone smile or helped someone learn something new always makes me feel good. My support system is what sets me apart from others. I have such a great team behind me; they are there for me at every turn. Having that confidence and love instilled inside me and doing everything out of a genuine place will push me to the top.

We all have different ways of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is earned after placing your time, effort, and love into making an outcome desirable. When you are driven to complete a goal and achieve it with honesty and integrity, success will find its way to you, along with all the things that come with it.
