Life & Work with Lxnny

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lxnny .

Hi Lxnny, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am originally from Raleigh, NC. Growing up I always had a love and appreciation for music. From listening to the Tom Joyner morning show riding to school with my mom, hearing different rap songs when out with my dad’s side of the family, or on the radio while in summer camp. I was in the band from 3rd grade until I graduated high school and that became my first experience really feeling and participating in the music. Artists like Pharrell & Kanye West sparked the idea of going into different realms of music outside of being in the band. This created the dream of being a musician and making the music I appreciate and admire. Fast Forward to my Sophomore year of college where I took my whole paycheck and a few more dollars from my mom to buy a used MPC for around $250. A few projects and growth later, here I am.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely wasn’t smooth but that’s where the growth comes in. Starting off making beats was cool but when I started rapping that was a different thing. I started rapping because I got tired of waiting on other people to go over my beats for the world to really hear them. I had already released Beat Tapes so I was thinking of different ways to gather more ears (which is always the goal). So I started rapping and working on a tape. I played a song for a group of friends and one of them literally started laughing. From there it created the goal of always trying to prove my abilities. I knew that wasn’t the reaction I ever wanted. It was motivation for me. Honestly, every time I write a verse now I think about that moment. That same friend really likes my raps now, so that’s how I know growth is real.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an artist. My mediums are music and film photography. I am a rapper and producer. I also mix and master my own projects as well as my friend’s who make music also. On the production side I really appreciate the realm of Hip-Hop & R&B. For Film Photography I shoot on a point and shoot. I like to focus on landscape photography and just the natural sights of the world. I really appreciate the beauty in nature as I feel it’s a direct view of God’s work. To date I’m very proud of my last project and my upcoming one which is a sequel. “Ocean Views” which dropped last year and “Lamborghini Boats”which is coming out July 30th. I feel like I executed this upcoming project very well. The idea is to take people away from their situation and take them on a journey through their mind. When listening to this album, you have to imagine yourself on a tropical island away from the world’s problems and enjoying all of your favorite things in the process. The production by Sean Wrekless paired with the stories I am painting on this project really set the scene. It’s a great project to close out the summer. Something that you will appreciate for some time. Also proud of the growth I’ve seen within Film Photography, that’s been a really fun process. I think the main thing that sets me apart from others is my originality. I stay true to what I like and appreciate. I feel you can see that in my work.

What do you think about happiness?
Spending time with family and enjoying things I appreciate. Surrounding yourself with people that love you is important. It gives you the drive to keep doing what you do and be better. It’s also nice to just get away from the world and enjoy your life and the people that are in it. You have to appreciate and take advantage of every moment.

I made some grammar corrections. I’m super excited!
