Life & Work with Lindsey Boedicker of Overland Park, KS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lindsey Boedicker

Hi Lindsey , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Ever since I was younger, I always wanted to stand out and wear the most unique things. I remember setting up at craft shows while wearing a cute outfit, selling “artwork”, and creating handmade items. Once high school rolled around, I began to realize that what I visualized and created in the past was a gift. I knew I wanted to utilize this gift for a lifetime. So, I decided to start an online women’s clothing boutique-and went with the name Serenity The Brand. I knew right away that most entrepreneurs or boutique owners don’t make it after one year. Although that statistic scared me, my mom, Serenity, was right there to encourage me every step of the way. With a whole lot of faith, prayers, and hard work, we built this brand together. Serenity The Brand started on a dream! I began to create a website in 2022. It wasn’t easy by any means, but it was functionable. I then saved up and worked really hard to put everything I had into ordering hangers, business cards, and shipping supplies. I signed up for my first boutique pop up shop and got to meet so many inspiring women who motivated me to continue working on spreading love and positivity through my clothing brand. This year has been full of many blessings for our business. We are now on TikTok shop and Instagram selling to people from thousands of miles away! It feels so good to connect with customers through the screen and provide them with a peaceful shopping experience. We have a room in our house dedicated to showcasing our cute clothing and custom charm jewelry! Our charm jewelry is so special because our customers get to join our live and select every single charm that goes on their custom just as they would if they were shopping in person. I get to work with my family everyday which is more than I could ever ask for. We are so grateful to have both an online community and local community that loves shopping Serenity The Brand clothing, bibles, trucker hats, shoes, and accessories. You too can have a peaceful shopping experience with us online or in-person at our 3 booths located inside Painted Tree Boutiques (8500 W 135th St. in Overland Park, KS.)

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Here in Kansas there is no such thing as a smooth road! All jokes aside, there are always bumps in the road when it comes to selling anything or starting a business. For my boutique the most difficult part for me was learning the logistics as to getting started. I knew I had to work overtime and push myself harder than ever. That meant, staying up until 2:00 am some nights so that I could prepare email marketing, or package orders. There are so many duties and responsibilities all on yourself. When selling anything it is all about trust and confidence. In order for my customers to get to know me I knew I needed to post online content! Creating the content I had visualized involved reaching out to other creatives and investing in collaborations! Lastly the challenge to set myself apart. There have been locals who have copied my online content word for word. There have been others who mimic and mock my designs or work. In order to remain authentic, I continue to care genuinely for all of my customers. I connect and get to know who they are and what styles they love! And as always, I remain positive and lean on my faith. That is the best way to handle any challenge thrown your way!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am the owner of Serenity The Brand and my main focus as the owner is to visualize and hand select clothing items and organize them into themed collections. After that is done, I plan. Planning content to promote a collection. I am very interested in creating a story with every outfit. For example, our Red White and Blue drop was so unique because we did the clothing photoshoot on some land that was local to me. This is something no other boutique can recreate. It adds character and is so unique. When it comes to a trend like charm jewelry we are so different than the other “charm bars” we are here to build and design a custom that is YOU! Our design girls are trained on how to help balance charm designs out and recommend color schemes that represent you. We offer the largest variety of charms! It’s a unique experience that can’t be duplicated. It is not just a sale it is the start of a relationship with our company and our customer. I am most proud of the genuine connections and relationships made!

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We have had online creatives accept PR packages! Some we have worked with are Keaton Oaks and Lanie Kristin. Being inside Painted Tree is a large collaboration opportunity for us as there are so many businesses under one roof that promote and build each other up! Most customers also love to share and tag us in their posts which also helps so much!
