Today we’d like to introduce you to LaMyah Williams.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
When I was 14, I was in the brainstorming process. I told myself that making my own product and doing everything on my own was something that I really wanted to accomplish. But I was only 14. No income, no brand or anything. So, I waited until I turned 15 to put my business in action. I got my first job. My small paychecks went into buying all of my products in order to make lipgloss. With a lot of trial and error, three years later my business is operating better than ever.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not always been easy. Especially because I wanted to do everything on my own. When I first started out, I didn’t want to take anyone’s advice. I wanted to learn on my own. But I had to get out of that mindset and let others help me. I had trouble with selling for a while. But, I built my brand up. Had a relaunch and really focused on my targeted audience. I had to pay attention to what people liked so I can get my business back on the smooth side.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I make handmade organic and cruelty-free lipgloss. I have started to branch out and sell other things that I see are popular. But my main focus is lipgloss. I am so proud of all of my products. I have made every single product by hand they are all special. What sets me aside from others is, if I have a vision, I will see through it. Others don’t really have the patience to re-launch and rebrand. If business isn’t going great, I will literally go back to the drawing board and change everything.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I didn’t really have a lot of friends or close cousins in my age range. I was more into reading, arts and crafts and trying to find my place in the world. I was happy child. I enjoyed watching television and playing with Barbie Dolls. So that is one reason why my business struggled at first. I didn’t really have friends to support the upcoming of my business. A lot of sales usually first comes from people whom you are closest to. So it was extremely hard. Seeing people having the same exact things as me but they were getting the support because they had friends.
