Life & Work with Kyle Werner

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kyle Werner.

Hi Kyle, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
I started getting really into music at a young age, getting my first guitar around the age of 12, it’s always been something that’s piqued my interest.

In 2012-2013 I started DJ-ing & producing EDM. In 2014-15 I joined a collective called Bass Hertz Productions and played all over Topeka, Lawrence and KC at places like The Riot Room, Niche, The Bottleneck, Jackpot Music Hall, The Granada, and more. I was going under the name “BOBA” at the time.

Around 2016 I started to feel a disconnect with EDM and wasn’t feeling it as much as I previously was, so started a side project where I can just make beats & record songs with my friends. I put my name in a Wu-Tang Clan name generator and that’s how Maadcxmmander was born.

Now I’ve stepped away from EDM, and have mostly been doing hip-hop & rap production and recording for the last 5 or so years now and it’s been so much fun, and that’s what I always try to make the recording process like, I try to keep it fun and make the artists feel comfortable like they’re at home, so the most genuine music can be made

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I really enjoyed it every step of the way. It hasn’t always been the easiest thing, I’ve thought about throwing in the towel a lot of times. Sometimes things don’t feel like they’re moving as fast as I want them to, or sometimes I feel overlooked, but that’s when I take a step back and clear my mind, get myself back in balance and keep moving.

I know it’s not a race, and that’s usually when I go back to remembering why I started this project, to begin with, to have FUN. To make the music I want to hear. To escape from “the real world” if you will.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’d say most people know me for my beats and instrumentals. That’s definitely my area of expertise is music production. I always try to make something that sounds different & unique from everything going on.

I’m really proud of all the music I’ve released or been a part of. But if I had to pick one project out, I’d say I’m really proud of the latest release I put out with my friend Ricky Roosevelt. We put out a collab project called “Late Night TV” back in September released through KC label French Exit Records. From the artwork to the music, to the interludes in the album, everything really came together perfectly on that release.

We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up.
Wow, that’s kind of a tough question lmao. Off the top of my head I’d say I remember when I was younger, my dad had gotten these little dirt bikes & four-wheelers for him, my brother & me to ride around on. We would ride out to my Aunt & Uncle’s farm and just spend the day riding all over my Aunt & uncle’s land on those bikes.
