Today we’d like to introduce you to Jeremy Wassink.
Hi Jeremy, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was in the Marine Corps for 8 years, straight out of high school. I did 3 tours of duty overseas during that time. After the military I transitioned into the sales world. I bounced around a few different places and then landed at a company that taught real estate investing education.
I spent 4 years working with high level entrepreneurs and investors and got into real estate investing. At that company I taught everyday people topics like financial literacy, debt management, investment strategies, mindset shifts, entrepreneurship and many other things regarding finances and real estate.
That was a life changing experience. Being around those people completely changed my outlook on finance and personal development. I dug myself out of a steep financial hole, transformed my credit and bought multiple properties a year. It was a monumental shift in my life.
As the company evolved and transitioned to other avenues, I went into the mortgage world. It was a great marriage between a couple of my favorite topics: real estate and finance. It was a perfect fit.
As most loan officers do, I spent years building my business from scratch, actively being in the community, building referral partners and lots of marketing. Being a Veteran and someone passionate about financial education, I carved out a couple great niches in the mortgage space: Veterans and first time homebuyers. And because of my background in real estate, whether the client is a brand new homebuyer, or a seasoned investor, I have been able to adapt my services and resources accordingly.
During the past year in 2025, which has been one of the harder years in recent mortgage history, I had my most successful year. A lot of this has to do with my commitment to transparency, education and involvement in the community.
I love partnering with local professionals in the real estate / financial space. Events, holidays, coffee events, meet ups, etc…
Our team has thrived, even during Covid and after is growing rapidly. We are excited for what’s coming next!
It has been a great journey so far and we are just getting started!
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would find it it almost impossible to find a great mortgage advisor that has had a “smooth” road in this business. Especially over the last 4-5 years.
Building a business in mortgage is exactly that – building a business….from scratch.
There are so many facets that you have to master before you have a real career in this business:
– marketing
– lending guidelines for 100’s if not 1000’s of loan programs
– sales
– how to put a file together
– how to analyze bank statements / paystubs / tax returns
– operations / closings
– many many more
Not to mention dealing with the massive real estate swings that occur like Covid, bidding wars, market downturns, interest rate hikes, rate shoppers, underwriting issues, low appraisals, hostile clients, deals falling apart for xxx reasons.
There are days and weeks in this business where everything feels like its going smoothly and perfectly. And in a flash it can feel like a month where everything was a disaster and all your files are on fire. This is the nature of the mortgage business.
It will weed people out very quickly. The amount of stress and responsibility it takes to succeed in this business is a lot. But for those that persrvere, the rewards can be incredible.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
As a mortgage advisor, I can put together almost any loan in the residential playbook, and believe me, there are some doozies that we have been able to make happen!
That being said my background makes me an expert in a couple areas: VA loans and First Time Homebuyers.
As a Veteran, helping military members and Veterans become homeowners is something very important to me. Our services members deserve high level home loan services and resources, and I try really hard to provide that. The VA loan is an incredible loan option that can help Veterans become homeowners with very little out of pocket. This can also be a GREAT tool to break into owning real estate. Using a VA loan to buy a 2-4 unit building with 0% down is such a cheat code. Every Veteran should be educated on this and have the opportunity to leverage it if they desire.
The other area I really thrive in is working with first time homebuyers. Having spent all those years teaching financial and real estate strategies, I’m an educator at heart. I LOVE to learn, teach and educate. I’m also a bit of a nerd so I love crunching numbers, analyzing data, and presenting it in a way that transparent, easy to understand and encouraging.
– One of the worst things I see is potential homebuyers putting things on pause because of rates, what their family members think the market is gonna do or what they hear on the news. Being informed is important, but a lot of that is noise and gets in the way of an open minded conversation on why they COULD be homeowners sooner than they think.
– That’s where I come in. I have spent years refining my client conversations. I leverage data, information and ideas and present them in a way that they can truly understand and in a way that motivates them to build their financial future through real estate.
There are too many loan officers that are what I call “order takers.” They send a client a mortgage application, pump out a preapproval letter and that’s it. You’d be shocked how many lenders don’t even go over basic numbers with them until they are under contract! It’s a disservice to everyone on such a monumental investment.
I like to think of myself as an “advisor,” rather than an “order taker.” When I work with a client, we are going to get the full picture of what your needs are, analyze where you’re starting from and present ideas that will help them make a stronger and more informed decision.
Do you any memories from childhood that you can share with us?
Playing sports was a big part of my childhood. I played soccer, track and football. But soccer was my true passion as a kid.
One of the best memories was my the final game with my 9th grade soccer team. We went undefeated that year and I was one of the primary goal scorers. I was able to score a goal in that final game which seeled the win for our team. The whole team went wild, as did all our parents and spectators. It was a rush of emotion and a sense of accomplishment having finished a perfect season.
I always wonder to this day what would have happened if I stuck with soccer long term. I played for 11 years, played on travel teams and was an aggressive goal scorer. I’ll never forget that part of my life.
