Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Donaldson.
Hi Jamie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a love for good design. After 8 years of teaching Art, I decided I needed something that pushed me more creatively while also giving me more time for my family. Fox Creek Designs was born out of my love for design and a need to have more time with my family. Fox Creek originated in Saint Joseph in 2018. Over the last 2 years, I have had the opportunity to grow into the Kansas City area and been fortunate enough to work with some amazing vendors along the way.
I would say my style is a mix of modern and traditional with a touch of feminine.
I have always leaned towards clean and refined designs that are both beautiful and personal without being overly cluttered. As a company, I love getting to seek out and curate decor that goes beyond the wedding rental basics that everyone is used to seeing.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Creating a business is always a lot of work. In the beginning, acquiring inventory that was exciting to me and wasn’t going to cost me an arm and a leg was a huge focus and at times difficult. As the company has grown I have definitely had to learn how to wear ALOT of hats. Social Media has never really been my “thing” so that has been a hard adjustment, just getting out there. Throw COVID in the mix and how no one could host events or weddings for some time and that made things even crazier! The shut down of the event industry was really uncomfortable but also lead to meeting lots of new vendors from the KC area who were in same boat. We all had tons of pent-up creative juices lol so there were many (safely) planned photoshoots, which for me really helped to allow me to step outside of the box and develop my own style even more.

Fox Creek Designs is an event and wedding design and rental company. Our love is in creating personalized designs for our clients that allows guests to enjoy a unique and relaxing experience from start to finish. From curating rentals specifically for our clients to aligning a vendor team who complements the design, we find joy in all the little details that take an event from ordinary to one of a kind.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I think there are so many ways to define success and I also think it is so easy to get swept up in that “busy” definition of success and I personally try really hard not to do that. For me, I have really tried to focus on the idea of creating a company that can allow me to spend lots of time with my family while still pushing my creative limits.
