Life & Work with Heidi Sarnecki of Rantoul, KS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Sarnecki.

Heidi Sarnecki

Hi Heidi, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I’ve always dreamed of having a home with a big barn next to it — a space where family and friends could gather, celebrate, and feel at peace. Hosting has always been a part of who I am. I love opening my home, creating beautiful experiences, and making people feel welcome.

In 2020, when life felt a little uncertain and the world was slowing down, my husband and I started looking for property outside of the city. That’s when we stumbled upon the Black Barn property. From the moment we set foot on it, we knew it was special. The barn and farmhouse felt like more than just a piece of land — it felt like a calling.

At first, we ran the farmhouse as an Airbnb, and I continued dreaming about one day turning the property into a wedding & events venue. I wanted to create a place where our guests would feel that sense of beauty, peace, and purpose.

Over time, God began to bring together the right people and resources to make that dream a reality. In early 2024, I met Paxton Dawson, who came on board to help launch the venue, along with our property manager Denise Reed. Together, we’ve worked to bring new life into the barn and to create a venue that’s not just stunning — but deeply rooted in hospitality and faith, providing a space for creating deeper community connections.

Serving not only wedding clients, but also corporate leader teams, school, church & community groups, healing ministries, and families, Black Barn at Stone Creek has truly become what I always hoped it would be: a place meant to bless others.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road — but it’s been a meaningful one. Balancing family life while building a business from the ground up is no small task. There were seasons of dreaming big without yet having the time, money, or resources to make it all happen.

There were moments of frustration and uncertainty, but I’ve learned that God’s timing is perfect. Every delay, every challenge, and every “not yet” was simply preparing the way for what’s unfolding now.

One of the biggest lessons has been learning to trust that the right people will come at the right time — and they have. Seeing this vision come to life through the hands and hearts of people who share the same values has made every challenge worthwhile.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Before launching Black Barn, I was (and still am) a stay-at-home mom and have always supported my husband in growing his own businesses. I’ve also been involved in the health and wellness space, helping to build community and connection among women who are striving to live with intention and faith.

Through all of that, I realized that my true calling is creating spaces — whether physical or emotional — where people can rest, connect, and feel taken care of. The wedding and events world became a natural extension of that heart for hospitality.

Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
For me, it all comes down to faith and people. I believe success isn’t just about building something beautiful — it’s about how you treat others along the way.

At the core of everything we do at Black Barn is a desire to treat people with dignity, respect, and genuine care. We want every person who walks through our doors to feel seen, valued, and loved.

My faith in Jesus is the foundation of it all. This business isn’t just about weddings — it’s about serving others and being a blessing. When you approach business from that place of humility and purpose, the rest truly falls into place.
