Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Rice
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I’ve been making music and doing art since I was a child. I grew up with a piano in my house and was often involved in musical things at church. I’ve always been creative and saw things a different way but I didn’t get my confidence to make my own music until middle school where I started learning production and playing Alto sax. I would continue producing on and off until college where I helped my friends Aaron Alexander and Brandon Williams on their project Radiant Child. This sparked my desire to take my music making skills to the next level. Since then I’ve been working on improving my skills and perspective to make the best art possible. I’ve released multiple projects since then doing most of the work myself including production, lyrics, mixing and mastering. While I do enjoy collaborating, I’ve learned well that the environment you create in is important and there are times where others are not able to see the vision of what you are creating. I think it’s important to collaborate as well as have projects to work on in solace.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I’m not sure I know what a smooth road is. I believe I’m the creator I am today because of how many obstacles have and continue to arise. The creating part has always come easy to me, however sharing my art hasn’t always been the greatest experience. In a world where music is so subjective and the landscape of sharing music has changed so much, I’ve struggled with growing my audience especially here in my hometown. While this can be discouraging at times I know that my love for my craft will shine through at the end of the day.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a Producer, Artist, Musician and Engineer known for having a unique sound. My creative compass sets me apart from others in music. I’m never chasing the next trend or what’s hot, instead choosing to create genuinely authentic sounds and songs from the soul.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was quiet kid and an observer. I was and am still interested in art and technology which fueled my passion for music and production. I had very tumultuous teenage years due to family problems which left me internalizing a lot of angst and frustration. Art and music has been my way of expressing those emotions in a healthy way.
