Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Lipset.
Hi Eric, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Growing up, I was always creative but had no outlet. I didn’t pick up a camera until I was 21. After my cousin and close friend Lindsey committed suicide, I realized I had no time to waste figuring out what I wanted to do, I just sort of started doing it.
My grandpa is an avid photographer and baseball lover, so I looked to follow in his footsteps as best I could. I learned photography from a video production company nearby, while feeding the owner of the business my never-ending content ideas for him to use in exchange. I also took my love of baseball and blended it with my passion for (responsible) gambling, and created an online community for people to take my knowledge of the game and make money with it (my twitter is LippyBets).
As a Marketing student at Bentley University, I found a lot of success with my creative and bold approach to marketing. See, you can’t do what everyone else does, you just can’t. So, along the way I would partner with small businesses in need of marketing or overall strategy, and tried to help. It really is kinda simple, I just started trying to help people with what I was already good at.
Fast forward to today, I have my fingers in many different pots! I truly love helping businesses grow through marketing. But, I also love actually making the marketing content. From finding work as a production assistant to now directing my own photoshoots for local models and brands, I truly have found purpose more than I ever thought possible. This past year, I helped make a documentary for The Dorson Foundation with MediaXMarketing, directed various photoshoots, took photos for Pro and D1 baseball players in/ around Boston, and grew my network in baseball.
Now: recently laid off from an agency Job looking for a new 9-5 to support my side hustles and eventually (hopefully) make my way into marketing for MLB.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Everything has obstacles. I was constantly torn between doing what my friends are doing and doing what I want. One thing I love about myself though is that I know how to truly maximize the time in the day we have. I feel really accomplished when I go to the beat of my own drum and get a lot done. I think the hardest part really is to figure out what my end goal is. I’ve always wanted 10 different careers in 10 different places, I just love doing cool things and don’t believe one degree type of specialty is as rewarding as conquering lets say 8 different careers or skillsets. Why just be a photographer when you can be a photographer, consultant, gambling guru, and creative marketer? The limit is where you draw the line (to a degree)
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
What sets me apart from others is that I try to be always stay “Humble & Kind” like the Tim McGraw song. I’m good at whatever I put my mind to. It can be a cocky thing to say, but I go all-in on what I want and when I do that, I’m usually successful. I think it’s a good lessen to others though, because that dream of yours isn’t far fetched or out of reach, it’s just a little foggy. But get your headlights fixed and you’ll be able to navigate it just fine.
What I do: consult small businesses with creative direction, overall strategy, and marketing solutions
I also provide gambling advice and strategy to exploit weaknesses in Sportsbooks, increase likelihood of profit, and preach responsible wagering. Most of this is done through Twitter / X, and I am being recruited to join paid programs to provide picks for a price next year.
What I am most proud of is my photography and baseball knowledge being shared online. My grandfather Lew Lipset (theoldjudge.com) made his career through baseball, and any way to honor him makes me really happy (I am a lot like him, especially in the sense of humor department).
I’m overall known for being extremely creative and a holistic problem solver in business. My experiences have been primarily in the consulting space, but also the auto industry, investment marketing, the list goes on..
Sets me apart: my people skills and my willingness to help others
Is there anyone you’d like to thank or give credit to?
