Life & Work with Dilynn Harvey

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dilynn Harvey.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
Acting is something I’ve always wanted to do, but like a lot of people, I didn’t have the confidence to go for it right away. Before social media, I didn’t even know how to go about auditioning or where to find casting calls. Thankfully with my husband’s confidence in me and telling me to go for it, I started looking into it by googling auditions. I couldn’t find any open casting calls without an agent, however, through Facebook, I was able to find Amanda Payton and Todd Sheets, I auditioned for them for a segment called “The Crawler” for the horror anthology “Sleepless Nights”, from there, I went on to work with them for several features…Dreaming Purple Neon, Hi-death, Bonehill Road, Clownado, Hi-Fear and Final Caller. I’ve also been lucky to work with a few other filmmakers in KC as well. Recently I had the pleasure of working on location in Virginia with James B Thomasson for his feature “Backwoods Bubba” I have a lot fun working on low budget films, not only do you make lots of new friends, they allow a way to gain experience on set, in front of the camera as well as behind the camera. I do a lot of horror projects but I’ve recently finished a film series that is not horror-related and even though I haven’t seen the finished product yet, I’m super proud of the whole new experiences I had that went into making this. I can’t reveal the name yet, but we are hoping for the premier of it soon, I can say look for familiar faces, for example, Millie Milan and Omega Edwards. Currently, I have been cast as June for a play called “Ix’ticha, Spider-God of the Amazon” written by Kansas playwright Misty Maynard for the ACT Theatre Company in Topeka, KS directed by Patricia Middleton showing June 10th – 19th. My husband, Jeff Harvey has been my biggest supporter and he is the reason I am able to do what I love…..acting alongside so many talented actors and actresses. You can watch most of my movies on Amazon Prime, Vudu and Tubi. They are also available on DVD through Amazon, Wild Eye Releasings and Unearthed films.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Definitely not a smooth road, mainly what you would expect from not having proper training, like film school, acting lessons or an acting coach. I would love to take some classes soon, as I don’t think it will ever be a smooth road, but it will help with learning experiences for future projects.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
At the moment, I’m just focusing on acting, working on my craft and finding my brand, but at the same time working on different genres and character personalities. I’m proud that I haven’t given up, it can be an easy thing to do. To be honest, I really don’t see anything that sets me apart from others, we all have dreams.

What makes you happy?
My husband, my two children, my dogs, my family, friends and of course acting. Acting for me is therapy, when I hear the words “action” I’m in a whole new world.
