Life & Work with DeAngelo Daniel

Today we’d like to introduce you to DeAngelo Daniel.

Hi DeAngelo; please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Hi, my name is De’Angelo, but I go by Delo Stylez. I’m originally from Chicago Illinois. I’ve lived in Kansas City, Missouri, for two years. My first official client was my mother and the church choir. She was preparing for her CD release. She called me up and told me she needed some assistance. I said ok Mom’s and started coming up with a creative concept.

I also get my keen sense of style from my grandmother Sarah, a very stylish woman, who always thought me to kill with kindness. To this day my was still my biggest jobs to date the production value of it all was impeccable. 46 people at once and I’ll do it all over again.

I learned a lot about doing what works best for each client individually according to their unique body type. and how I would in-vision them in fashion from my friend Jacqueline (may she rest in peace). For me growing up in Chicago “The Windy City” the fall has always been one of my favorite seasons. I’d often sit downtown and people watch. Looking at the way they would layer up and color combinations that sometimes made perfect sense and other times not so much but was always well put together. I picked up my love for high fashion watch sex and the city & the devil wear Prada. I love the way the ladies would dress. Chic fashionable often times I didn’t match, but they coordinated. Then I that theory on as a motto you don’t have to match you just have to coordinate. Then I studied one on the GOATS André Leon Talley “VOGUE” his larger than life personality along with his eye for beauty, art the next level on fashion. According to him. Then the ultimate show came out and I first season of project runway and I was hooked from season 1 but it was not until I saw Micheal knight that I knew I had to learn how to sew. I saw someone who looked like me and acted like me. I’ve always watched all kinds of fashion shows, from Vogue to Vanity Fair. I fell in love with Anna Wintour, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, to name a few. As life would have it. I list my fashion dreams on hold and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas and got married. Living there showed me I was different, unique, different and I learned to embrace my uniqueness. Well as life would have it, I went through a divorce and lost my way that when I moved t Kansas City, Missouri to the unknown and I must say event sense I touched down here life has been eventful, much self discovery and lessons learned and one day I got that tap on the shoulder asking me to style and really that all she wrote.

For a year, I was an assistant to a 20-year-old up and coming fashion designer Gorgeous K. as I assisted her in designing clothes and sitting in on meetings I found my voice and more and more was asked my opinion and I realized my corporate skill set as a brand & image consultant also was needed in the fashion industry. So started helping people elevate there small businesses, online beauty brands, products, businesses and corporations. I learned the in and outs of the business and the importance of networking and how to engage with industry professionals, leaving space and room for everyone to have a say and shine. I’ve studied online courses, I paid for personal mentorships because I believe iron sharpens iron. Learning colors and color patterns, prints, textures, fabrics, stitch, hemline, measurements, and most of all fashion vocabulary. In the past I’ve hosted 2 Internet radio shows “real talk with Delo and friends” on The Real underground Radio out of Little Rock, Arkansas. To date I’ve stylez a scene in remake of a well known movie yet to be released and 5 fashion shows this year in multiple cities. This things I’ve manifested have become my reality and much more to come and u fold I pray. I spent a whole year working in silence, watching, praying, meditating, hoping, waiting for my time and my season ( in GODs perfect timing) Some days were hard. I spent many days alone, feeling lonely, sometimes not even being in the find direction. The way is narrow and lonely, and you must be a self starter. I’ve learned that I’m not in control GOD is and if I go with the flow… as long as the flow is going my way all things will workout for my good. I made a vow to the Lord and before I take it back, I’ll add more to it. Meaning, whatever sacrifices I have to make do it, even and wait for no man’s approval. I’m a creative so I learn to create an environment that conducive to what I want and where I want to be in life. Just the fact that you guys want to write an article on me is just mind blowing, and I’m so thankful and grateful. Sometimes you have to work in silence. Sometimes you have to do the work and not be paid or be paid little to nothing to get your name out , and often times you won’t get the recognition you deserve in the beginning but only what you do for Christ will last. but it’s Passion, purpose and faith are my guide to success.

I say every morning, whatever you do today don’t forget to rub on the oil of joy, and I exist on a realm, and in a level of pure JOY!

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to success is not a smooth road at all. Many bumps and potholes in the road. Many times you’ll do the work and someone else will take the credit or someone thinks they can do it better then. I’ve learned to be motivated to push even harder by folk like that. Some of the struggles were people not believing in me and not getting paid for work. Damaged clothes, models just ripping off garments and treating them with lack of respect, things being taken and never returned or one of the biggest challenges is what do you do when you don’t have the clientele. I’ve worked for boutiques that took in more money from my clients or me bringing in business than what I was getting paid. It’s just expensive to start a business and maintain it. Sometimes you’ll wonder how can I afford to make this happen? I have bills I have real-life issues going on. I’m working two jobs to support my fashion dreams. Sometimes I don’t even have enough, but I make it through just in time. Sometimes by the hair of my chin but GOD always and I mean always steps in right on time.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
I’m a fashion stylist and designer. I also do brand and image consulting. I’m also a Creative Director and Producer. I’m known for being a fashion stylist/designer and being joyful. I’m most proud that after my divorce I did not crumble and fold, although I wanted to many days, I kept pushing. I do believe eyes have not seen nor ears heard of the great things I’m going to do and the lives who will be impacted by me. I am working hard to have something in this world that influences, shifts the and uplifts the culture. I want to create a space for someone to come after me and their was be made easier than mine has been.
