Life & Work with Celeste Gill

Today we’d like to introduce you to Celeste Gill.

Hi Celeste, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?

My journey has never been about simply becoming a chef—it has been about using food to bring people together, create opportunities, and leave a lasting impact. I discovered my love for Louisiana cuisine as a child and later pursued formal training in culinary arts and food science. Over the past 30+ years I’ve worked as a chef, educator, author, speaker, and entrepreneur, preparing meals for everyone from families and community organizations to public figures and government leaders.

Along the way I’ve been honored as Chef of the Year by the American Culinary Federation and have served as a culinary instructor, including teaching ServSafe certification programs that help incarcerated individuals build skills for employment after release. I believe food can change lives.

Today I’m focused on growing Chef Celeste LLC through catering, education, specialty products, and my signature seasonings and Louisiana honey mustard. My mission is to preserve Louisiana’s food culture while inspiring others to pursue their dreams, no matter where they start. Every recipe, class, and event is an opportunity to connect people, build community, and prove that passion, perseverance, and service can create a meaningful legacy.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Struggles along the way could have been magnified by entering a male dominated field, prejudice and self doubt at times. All of those challenges became rungs in the ladder I created for myself.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am an artist and my medium is food. I truly believe food can change your life. I offer free summer classes on charcuterie or yogurt palettes for children. I specialize in the healthier side of Louisiana cuisine and beautiful grazing tables. I am most proud of mentoring some amazing chefs that are now around the county.

What sets me apart is my open book policy. If I can do this you can as well let me show you how!

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
I define success by living life on my terms using the medium (food) I chose to work with
