Life & Work with Cassie Florido

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cassie Florido.

Hi Cassie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
After graduating from the Missouri School of Journalism with a degree in Emerging Media, I moved back to Kansas City to pursue my passion in photography and video. I began freelancing as a way to stay involved with sports photography after my time with the Mizzou Athletics photography staff ended after graduation. Freelancing landed me a spot on the Kansas City Chiefs’ photography team as a freelancer. As part of the photo team, I provide gameday photo coverage. I am also currently working at Social Apex Media, a Kansas City marketing agency. These two roles allow me to work both in marketing and sports photography. I’m truly blessed to be able to do both early on in my career.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
There are definitely some struggles that come along with working in my field. Right out of college, I didn’t take a full-time job. I started out as a freelancer. It was difficult because I was unsure of where my next paycheck would come from. I really had to hit the ground running and start making connections in the city. I had to make a name for myself for people to trust me to create photos and videos for their company. Now, I’m happy that I can work in a full-time and freelance role. I get to be more strategic in which gigs I take instead of taking gigs out of necessity. It’s become a great balance in my life to work full-time and still pursue freelance projects.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am most proud of my growth over the past few years. I’ve seen my work improve greatly. But also, I’ve worked on building up my confidence as a creative.
