Today we’d like to introduce you to Camille McMickle.
Hi Camille, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My journey started when I was very young about 5 or 6 years old singing with my sisters at my father’s church. I am a PK (preachers kid) as people say. I knew I loved Jesus and that I loved to sing but I just really didn’t know the exact call on my life at that time. We would sing at church, family reunions and other events around in the local area. However, even with being brought up in the church all my life, and being saved I had not experience a true intimate relationship with God to truly know Him for myself and to have clarity of what my calling truly was for my life.
Even though God had already began to work on me it would be a process and for me it began in 2007 when God healed me with a miraculous healing from a ulcer on my vocal chords. You see the enemy tried to destroy the very instrument that was going to be used to share the gospel and the messages that God had put in me and called me to share through my songs.
After God healed me, I promised God that I would obey Him and He could use me for His glory. I would obey even when I was afraid. You see I forgot to mention that when both my sisters moved away a few years earlier I had stopped singing altogether. Fear kept me from sharing my gifts. God had to have this encounter with me to light a fire under me and wake me up. So I began the journey of singing by myself. God had given me a whole book of songs but I was so scared to share any of them in public. It wasn’t until I remember saying it out loud one day, ” I know I like my songs but I just don’t know if they are good enough or if anyone else would like them” it was then God checked my spirit and I felt him say to me in my spirit, “It is good enough because I gave it to you”. When I heard that in my spirit, I had to repent and tell the Lord I was sorry. I began to learn and teach myself the guitar and I learned my own music. Now, I am a worship leader at my church Renew EPC in Lees Summit, MO, I sing at various conference and for several ministries that have events in the Local area and I wrote my first book “Y Worship” in 2021, Through my music God also opened a door for me to become a certified Mental Health Life coach with Building Bridges Ministries KC and a music therapist. It has been an amazing and wonderful journey of God developing and preparing me to walk in my calling and I am so very grateful.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Yes overcoming the fear of sharing my music. To stop being a people pleaser instead of pleasing God first. Overcoming the people saying “you can’t do that!” and just waking in my Godly authority. Flowing with God and being obedient and trusting Him fully was a big challenge for me. I wanted to but I just would always go back to my way which I thought was the safe way. That caused me to struggle a lot when trying to really believe all the amazing things God has for me!
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am a Singer/Songwriter, Psalmist, Author, Certified Mental Health Life coach, Worship Leader. I love music and if you ask most people they would say that is what I am known for because my artist name is “CamilleSings”. However, I love a lot of different creative things and have crossed over working in other areas. I have done voiceover work, plays and musicals over the years and I actually love painting and drawing and making jewelry and crafts. I specialize in music though! LOL.
I am most proud of writing my book about worship. Writing my songs that God has giving me and recording about 20 of them so far. My first cd, was called Journey to Invisible (2009), then my second cd was Invisible released in (2019), and I am working on my 3rd Cd which is going to be called Journey to Worship release date TBD. I release a couple of singles in between and I am just amazed a how God chose to bless me to create these songs.
I would say what sets me apart is my sound, my voice, my music has a specific message that God created me to uniquely share in my own unique way. I love that I don’t have to worry about if I go somewhere and someone before me sings a song I was going to sing because I can just share one of my originals and over the years I have become comfortable with doing that and I am realizing that a lot of people that book me now prefer me to do my original music. They will tell me they can get anyone to sing other songs but only I can do my original music. I am proud of that now where I used to be fearful to share my songs. I love to encourage others that it is never to late to walk in your calling that God put in you. So I would say my music and sound sets me apart from others.
