Life & Work with Blair Chandler of Kansas City

Today we’d like to introduce you to Blair Chandler.

Hi Blair, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I am a wife and fur-mom who is so passionate about brightening up the world around me. So many beautiful, heartbreaking, breathtaking, traumatizing moments and experiences have gotten me to where I am today. There are so many things that have shaped me, taught me, made me into the human being I am today. I was raised by parents who did their absolute best with what they had. They taught me how to be a strong, confident, passionate human being who knows how to use their voice, their light, to stand up for what’s right. They aren’t perfect, and neither was my childhood but I’m so grateful to call them my parents. I started working at the age of 15, and ever since then, the grind hasn’t stopped. I’ve worked in senior living, pet care, healthcare, nonprofit, and education settings. I have traveled coast to coast to serve communities in need and teach in underserved neighborhoods. It’s my goal to always leave everything and everyone better than I find them. While service is a privilege I’m grateful for, a true passion of mine is makeup. I love all things beauty, and for as long as I can remember, doing my makeup has always been my safe space, my creative outlet. Where I can authentically be myself and there are no rules! 2016 makeup era raised me and as long as I live, so will it. I love expressing myself through makeup looks. I also love connecting with others in the beauty community, it’s so much fun to share the same love for the same passion. Everyone deserves a safe space where they can be creative and express themselves.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Absolutely not, I’ve had many struggles along the way. I tend to dive head first into things and take them on as they come. I have lived on each coast, away from everything, and everyone I’ve known. I’ve watched people I love the most struggle with addiction, I’ve experienced loss, betrayal, heartbreak, abandonment. I’ve gotten knocked down more times than I can count, but I’ve gotten back up every single time. Honestly, I wouldn’t change any of it. Every struggle taught me something valuable and showed how to appreciate the beauty of the world that much more.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Makeup is what I do. I am known as the makeup girly, who isn’t afraid to try new things. To me, makeup has no rules, it’s whatever you make it! So I love being able to express myself however I want through new makeup looks. I love being able to be in the zone, quiet the world, try new things. If I don’t like the way something turns out, I try again. I feel like I do makeup my way, not society’s way, and that’s something’ I’m proud of. It’s so easy to get swept up in what’s trending, instead of what feels best to you.

What were you like growing up?
Always a big personality. I could make friends with anyone. As much as I’d like to put on makeup, I’d also love to go to a chiefs game with my dad, or catch grasshoppers at recess. I was also a water girl, if there was a body of water near, I was in it. I was a swimmer, and diver. From sun up to sun down, I was at the pool. I also loved following my big sister around like a shadow and doing everything she was doing. Happy little girl, who loved everyone.
