Today we’d like to introduce you to Betsy & Shaudin Avila.
Hi Betsy & Shaudin, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
LeftUntied (like leaving a shoelace untied) was unexpectedly born in August 2016 when our daughter became obsessed with Harley Quinn.
We never imagined it becoming this joyous experience we’re able to share with so many all around the world.
As her 9th birthday was approaching she came across a pair of customized Converse online that were only available in adult sizes. She insisted she would wear them in “like three years when they fit me, promise!”
Yeah right! We parents know how long kids’ fads last. After months and months of pleading for them, Shaudin gave in, kind of, and instead said, “We’ll make them for you”. What was he thinking??? We’ve never done this! And so it began…
She held us to it and that weekend was spent purchasing fabric markers, a pair of white Converse, designing, drawing, and coloring our first pair of “Chucks”. We couldn’t get her out of them or her Harley Quinn costume.
We shared the finished pair on our social media and the response was overwhelming. That post led to her aunt’s requests for a Dr. Seuss pair which we happily created. #2 was born and we knew this was something we were meant to be doing, together.
We’ve created so many different and unique themes… from Alice in Wonderland, Marilyn Monroe, Panic at the Disco, Game of Thrones, and Pokemon to 80s and random loves of pizza and pets to everything in between!
We take pride in ensuring that each pair is uniquely created to represent you and the things you love. Each pair is one of kind, just like you and I… “No Two Will Ever Be The Same”, stay tuned, this is only the beginning. 175 pairs in and the fun are just beginning!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
For the most part, it’s been super fun and colorful ride for the past 6 years!
There were a few hiccups with our little one getting hold of markers and sneakers we were creating…not a good combination. Luckily, we’ve learned how to use our markers and master them over the years.

Together as a team, my husband and I, design, hand-drawn, color and customize one-of-a-kind sneakers. You give us a theme and a little about the person receiving them and we will create a unique pair just for you! “No two pairs will ever be the same” and we take much pride in that!
Another fun fact, although you know what you’re asking for, you will not see your pair until they are delivered to you, and our absolute favorite part… your reactions! The joy it brings us is incredible, from yelps to gasps, to tears of joy, each pair holds a special place in our hearts.
Unlike most creators designing sneakers, we use fabric markers not paint on canvas kicks so your colors will not run, fade or scratch off. You can wear them in rain or shine and always stand out! We’ve created some really cool pairs for celebrities like Wendy Williams, and Ellen, and even for some great franchises such as Target, Saladworks, and Herbalife.
We also get to relive our childhood when asked for pairs in likes of some of our favorite movies and cartoons growing up… Sesame Street, Ghostbusters, Pokemon, and Edward Scissorhands to name a few.
Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
