Today we’d like to introduce you to Beatrice Henry
Hi Beatrice, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve worked in education for over 20 years (early childhood education, elementary classroom, homeschool, nanny, QIP for in home and center based care, etc) And I believe learning should be fun, engaging and a portal to fuel personal exploration. I’ve had the privilege of working in various learning environments and I believe good quality education should not be conditional to your economic status. Each child should have access to quality education and every caregiver should feel confident in educating their child no matter their income or skill level. I am able to use my two loves of educating and creating, as an Educational Consultant, to help bridge the gap between home and school. The programs I create and share help build a connection between literacy and family engagement. When we learn as a team we build a strong community of learners.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Some challenges I’ve faced are making sure the information translates through age groups, learning styles and skill levels. There is no one size fits all in education and sometimes there isn’t much variety offered with how information is presented and explored. I try to make sure there is something for every learner and skill level. We include topics like Social Emotional Learning, Movement, the 4 Educational Basics (Colors, Letters, Shapes, Numbers), The 5 Senses and even Food.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have the pleasure of creating curriculum that is literacy and family engagement focused. I also work with schools and early childhood education organizations to help teach and support parents with educating their children at home. The workshops and materials I share help parents and caregivers connect what their child is learning in the classroom to activities and games they can incorporate at home through family engagement. The benefits of incorporating the entire family in literacy and learning is we all have something to add and to learn. No one is exempt from gaining new knowledge on a subject. Working together as a family builds stronger relationships, better trust and more confidence in trying new things. Parents are their children’s first teachers, but often times our children are very insightful and can teach us as well. Creating an environment for exploration, fun and curiosity centered around literacy and learning plants amazing seeds for your child’s academic future and life in general. It’s such a Win-Win on so many levels. You CAN do this! And if you need help, tips or ideas, I’ve got you!
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I encourage you to create some space in your life for fun, play, family engagement and educational exploration. We don’t need to stop playing just because we are adults and learning doesn’t just happen in a classroom. Let’s use that spark to create more moments of family engagement and build stronger learners in the process. Take some time this week and #sharewhatyoulovewithyourchildren Trust me you won’t regret it!
