Life & Work with Ashley Vinson of Overland Park

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Vinson.

Ashley Vinson

Hi Ashley, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
In 2017, I was a 25-year-old woman working full-time with a 7-year-old son and various medical diagnoses. I struggled to find the energy to do even the things I loved. This is when I decided to try intentional movement for the first time. I was 5’2, 185 pounds, and my first goal was to lose enough weight to play with my son without limitations or being too tired and to feel better in my body. Without having any guidance, I was able to lose 50 pounds by moving my body and making nutritional adjustments. I kept the weight off up to 2020. When 2020 hit, I attempted to switch to at-home workouts and tried different modalities to keep the weight off, but nothing worked. I was moving in reverse and had put back nearly 20 pounds even though I continued moving my body and trying to eat well. In October of 2022, I decided I wanted to see what I was truly capable of. Mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. After a friend’s suggestion, I reached out to FitKC and joined a challenge with Lacey (whom I now work alongside). I completely transformed my body composition, mind, and overall health by creating and implementing simple positive lifestyle choices and learning to become in tune with and work with my natural physiology. While fitness, nutrition, and mindfulness practices have always been a burning interest, my experience with FitKC has influenced more than just my physical well-being. I am continuing my education as a personal trainer to help educate women on health, nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle changes to get to the root cause of what is holding them back so they can truly heal their bodies from the inside out.

It wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Regarding fitness/health/wellness, most people want immediate results. While seeing results quickly to achieve growth and lasting results is possible, it will take consistency and time. I have experienced a lot of hurdles and setbacks along the way. The self-doubt and struggles that turned into lessons have led me to be the coach and trainer I am and desire to be. I want to show others how I persevered and how they can. The small, consistent changes have been made along the way by adjusting through the struggles that have gotten me here.

Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently a personal trainer with FitKC and am working to further my education to become a women’s holistic hormone practitioner. Our clinic can help with hormone health, cycle syncing, nutrition, fitness, and lifestyle changes. We specialize in getting to the root cause of what is holding you back and helping you heal your body from the inside out. We consider your body’s natural physiology when helping you reach your goals and empower you to tune into your body’s natural rhythm to improve your overall well-being.

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
In the Flo by Alissa Vitti is a life-changing read. It is a book I wish all people could read. I stumbled upon this book in 2020 and learned things about my body that I wasn’t taught in 28 years. Atomic Habits by James Clear is another great read for anyone looking to make lifestyle shifts.
