Life & Work with Art by Ayala

Today we’d like to introduce you to Art by Ayala.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I am a full-time visual artist. Classically trained in fine art, I graduated with a BFA from CCA in San Francisco. I explore inclusive beauty and self-love through vibrant portraits to empower women. My work is an observation of pop culture inspired by influencers, celebrities and female entrepreneurs. I am first generation Colombian American and proud to be indigenous-owned.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has definitely not been a smooth road at all. I struggled immensely while putting myself through college as a full-time student working three jobs. I will never forget the lessons of that time and will forever be grateful for the experience. I have also greatly struggled with my identity. I have always known that I have indigenous ancestry but this is not as embraced in families who are born into identifying with Latino culture. Reclaiming my racial identity as a Native American woman is a form of self-actualization my ancestors were denied.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I specialize in portraits. In the era of the selfie, I am known for glamorous portraits of female entrepreneurs, influencers and icons of pop culture. What sets me apart from others is my skill and precision for realism. I have a sharp eye for detail and color. I am most proud of my art shop at the moment www.byayala.com where you can find a growing collection of my work.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
What’s most surprising that most people who work with me might not know is that I have experience working in several areas of the creative world from animation to graphic design, film editing and even modeling.
