Life & Work with Anthony Harvey of Los Angeles

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Harvey.

Hi Anthony, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Kansas City, Missouri but currently reside in Los Angeles, California. I attended schools in the KCK public school district. I started playing trumpet at age 10. This was the beginning of my musical career. Since then, I have been a part of numerous honor bands and ensembles throughout Kansas City and the state of Kansas. The piano became my main instrument in middle school. I was blessed to be born into a musical family. My mother, Elwanda Richardson, is a well-known musician, singer, and songwriter. This encouraged me and all of my siblings to follow in her footsteps and study music.

Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The road to success is always challenging in life and any career you choose. I have learned that challenges make you stronger and wiser.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a Music Producer, Music Director, Song Writer, Transcriber, Educator, and Instrumentalist. I play the piano, trumpet, trombone, tuba, xylophone, guitar, and bass. I am the founder and music director of the “Da Truth” band. Da Truth band is one the most requested and popular corporate bands in the Greater Kansas City Metropolitan area. I’ve been blessed to have performed and served as the Music Director for several well-known recording artists, such as New Kingston, Mali Music, Howard Hewett, Tichina Arnold, Raheem DeVaughn, Bobby Valentino, Ro James, Miya Guggs, Love Mae C, Big Bub, Blood Stone, Teadra Mosses, Rudy Currence, The Governor, Sean Tyler, Sosha Oshaye, Jackie Michaels, Eric Roberson, Mike Phillips, Kevin McCall, and LakeSide. I achieved a Masters’s in Business Administration with Leadership from Grand Canyon University in 2019 and became a member of the Nu Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi in Fall 2005.

Can you talk to us a bit about the role of luck?
I have been lucky to play for and meet many artists and celebrities throughout my journey.
