Life & Work with Andrew Pickens

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Pickens. Them and their team share their story with us below:

Andrew Pickens is from Kansas City, MO., Born on July 27, 1992 Married to Telese and Father to Nova Jade and Haven Reign, Pickens; the son of Tony and Karen Pickens. Drew spent most of his childhood in church because of his parents loyalty to ministry. Church is where he learned how to sing and lead contemporary worship under the mentorship of his uncle, J. Cortez Vaughn. Soon after, his passion for music grew further and Drew sought to learn how to play the piano! He was taught by (world renown stage-producer) Femi Sarah Heggie which also happens to be his Auntie. Under her mentorship she introduced him to the environment of Broadway where he discovered his love for Jazz, Funk and Pop which has inspired his sound . He studied vocal music and piano at Paseo Academy of the Fine Arts, (Kansas City, MO). Drew has composed jingles for commercials, written, composed and played the piano for many artists across the country. Now he’s living out his dream as a full-time musician and Grammy- Nominated Songwriter!

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Some of Drew’s struggles were living under the influence of what people thought of him. He was fearful of being different and experienced a lot of no’s when attempting to shop his music around.

He experienced backlash for dropping out of college to be on the road playing music.

He once had a hair disease called alopecia which made him afraid to be in front of people to perform.

All of these experiences were the dirt that he needed to grow. He knows what manipulation feels like, he knows what rejection feels like and he has decided to never live in that fear again!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
Drew loves to compose, write, arrange and produce music!

His specialty is to bring to life what people are feeling through music. One thing that sets him apart is his ability to write and composed both gospel and Christian contemporary music.

He connects with all demographics and bridges cultural gaps in efforts to bring all people together through the music he creates.

Any big plans?
Drew’s plan in the future is to open up a multi-purpose facility that not just allows people to record music, but to complete the whole process of branding, content creation, listening parties, and photoshoots.

A one-stop-shop to complete all the needs of an artist.

Drew is looking to launch his business called, “Musician Now”  in 2025. Shhhh… This one is a secret.
