Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Vaughn.
Hi Andrea , thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started my photography journey in 2020 after school was canceled because of Covid. I always loved photography as a hobby and would always take photos of my friends for fun. When Covid hit I decided I didn’t want to continue pursuing a nursing degree and decided to start pursuing photography full time instead. I started doing photo minis for families and that’s what really started my photography career in the beginning. After my first year full time I decided I wanted to do weddings and have been capturing weddings ever since. After a year of capturing weddings I learned I loved working with couples and solely wanted to focus on that. Last year I started putting together concept shoots for different photoshoot ideas I had. I usually did them for free or a super discounted price to just do them. One of the concepts was a photoshoot at a Waffle House for an end of the night date night vibe. I posted the photos on TikTok and it went viral. After that I posted the photos in a instagram reel and it hit 9.5 million views. I started to gain traction on my instagram, which lead me to becoming a traveling photographer and working with couples all around the United States. This year alone I have been to 13 states and 2 countries.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As much as I wish it was a smooth road it definitely wasn’t. Last year was my fourth year full time and it was my worst financial. I made more my first year being full time than my fourth year. Nobody was booking me last year. Which lead to me creating concept shoots and creating the photos that I wanted to create. It really reminded me of why I love photography and getting to push myself creatively. I look back now and I’m really glad I got that time to create for myself and not just my clients.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a photographer and I specialize in couples photos. I’m known for my movie still photos and capturing peoples story instead of stuff posing them and telling them what to do in front of the camera. I’m most proud of my growth as a photographer and pushing myself out of my comfort zone when it comes to taking photos in different lightings. I feel like my storytelling approach sets me apart from others because not I don’t pose couples instead I create a date scenario where they can have fun and be themselves.
Is there a quality that you most attribute to your success?
Creating art that I truly love even if no one else might not like it. I’m truly passionate about my vision and what I create.
