Life & Work with Amelia Harshfield of Near Union Station

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amelia Harshfield.

Hi Amelia, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I started bookkeeping for a restaurant who needed some help. I thought I would hate it, but the more I got practiced with Quickbooks, the more I liked it. Then I started thinking about the number of times I was let down by bookkeepers and accountants I had with my other businesses. I wanted to do something about the lack of good bookkeeping for businesses to prevent people from pain. So I got training in Quickbooks and started telling people that I could help them.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every client has something to learn and the learning curve when you are newer is a decent amount. But I kept pushing forward despite how messy some clients books are with them as long as they were willing to give the information I needed.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is the bad bookkeeping experience I had when I was trying to get another business off the ground. Most bookkeepers have not had other bookkeepers themselves. I feel like I am someone who can tell people no, so rather than onboarding everyone, I have a bit of a specialty and willing to stick to it for the sake of the effectiveness and effeciency of my businesses.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
We love helping CPA, tax attorneys, etc with their client’s books. It feels like a partnership when we work together. Plus it’s nice to pass referrals to these businesses who are helping my business. Bookkeeping can get a little lonely, so it’s nice to feel like you are on a team with someone with some clients.

Pricing:

  • Our minimum bookkeeping fee is $300 per month.
  • We do offer a decent discount on catchup and clean up projects if the client signs up for month to month bookkeeping.
