Today we’d like to introduce you to Alexia Bradley
Hi Alexia, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I started on this beautiful path of birthwork kind of by accident! I had several friends that told me I should do this doula training because I would be a great doula. I was very new to even what a doula was, but I love to learn, and pretty quickly into the training I realized how many families experienced traumatic births & postpartums moments all because they were poorly supported! From there I started researching & working alongside other birthworkers, midwives, & doulas to gain experience and knowledge about how to serve and love on mamas! Now I have been a practicing doula for over two years & this past June I started my LLC & “hard launched” my business!! It has been absolutely BEAUTIFUL and I adore my job!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Oh my goodness, it has been anything but smooth honestly. Starting a business is a leap of faith! It is uncertain at times, some people are unsupportive, and it’s hard work. I experienced lots of imposter syndrome & I had to release my worries every single day (still do)!! Honestly, I owe the successful launch of my business to God & my sweet husband. The Lord sustained me when I wanted to give up, and my amazing husband Ethan supported me and worked hard for us so I could focus on the business startup and leave my 9-5.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a doula I am a highly trained and experienced non-medical birth professional. I work in tandem with doctors, OBs, nurses, midwives, & partners. I am trained in holistic approaches to help with pain management, labor progression, and deeply nourishing postpartum recovery. My niche from other doulas is that I teach women that they hold a God-given physiological makeup that designed their bodies to give birth. I teach my mamas in pregnancy what they could expect in childbirth & how to trust their bodies through labor.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
My advice would be to RUN to those that support you and have been in business! Mindset is so huge when starting out, remember it won’t always be easy but in life there is a tradeoff with anything. If you leave your 9-5 you are leaving the “stability” it created for you, but in return you gain personal freedom. Similarly when you start a business you have freedom but at the expense of stability. You have to create your own. And it can be scary, but how fun is that?!?!
