Life & Work with Alex Whirley

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Whirley.

Hi Alex, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I’m a Kansas City native and Professional Women’s American Football Player (still technically in my rookie year because of this crazy COVID Apocalypse). I am a yoga & fitness travel trainer by day, helping you stay in shape while finding peace and enhancing your mind/muscle connection…basically kicking your butt and making you excited for more! When I’m not getting physical, I’m working passionately with my partner on our clothing brand, behind the scenes as a director & stylist or getting you loosened up on organic, clean crafted wine… because life is about balance, right? To be honest, when you first meet me, you would never guess that I’m a born introvert. Growing up in a family full of extroverts and performers (that made sure I had thick skin), I made it my mission at a very young age to live outside of my comfort zone becoming a dancer, speaker, and model performing in front of large crowds. Yes, even the butterflies in my stomach were sweating!

Much of my journey has been spent showing others how to view a new perspective on life, empowering change, and helping create balance within. It’s rumored that if you hang out with me long enough, I’ll brainwash you into believing you can do anything!

Bottom line, I’m here to influence minds, transform bodies, and inspire souls!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
When you make the decision to take the path less traveled and essentially pave your own road, there is nothing smooth about it! It’s an arduous trek for a young little introvert to begin creating the life of a socialite in addition to the typical struggles one may experience as your not-so-typical adolescent. I’ve always been told I have an old soul and the older I get the more I understand and embrace the perspective at which I view things, but as a child and young adult I felt isolated, lonely. Meditation and Yoga practice has changed my life in that regard, forcing me to dig deep and truly heal from childhood trauma and learn to love myself and the world around me in an entirely new way. Allowing myself to be vulnerable in order to grow.

As most entrepreneurs will agree, you have to become comfortable with starting over. You will have successes and failures, it’s what you do with those failures that make you who you are. I’ve had to start completely over many times and have had to make difficult, life-altering decisions in both business and my personal life. Choosing to quit my 9 to 5 and ending a long-term toxic relationship were 2 of the hardest and most rewarding decisions I’ve ever had to make. But I’ll tell you first hand once you cut those ties and chose to live a life of your own creation, the way you view the world around you changes and you realize you can make it through and do anything you set your mind to. (how do you think I became a pro football player at the age of 32?!)

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
More recently, I’m being recognized as one of Kansas City’s Women’s Professional American Football Players. Unfortunately, because of the COVID Apocalypse both our 2020 & 2021 seasons were canceled, so I’m still technically a rookie!

When I was a little girl being asked what I wanted to be when I grew up, a football player was definitely not even a thought! I would always recite that “I want to have my own clothing boutique and travel the world.” The other dream that stuck with me was to be a professional dancer. Well to tell you the truth, after many detours, I’m actually on the road to fulfilling every one of those dreams for that little girl inside me. I’ve taken dance to a different level with my yoga practice and teachings. Within the fashion industry, I moonlight as a wardrobe stylist, consulting, direct photoshoots, and I’m launching a women’s apparel brand with my partner called Rep Queens Movement (this is truly my baby!). We’re starting out online and through social media, also hosting pop-up shops around the Kansas City area. And of course, I’m taking every opportunity possible to travel, explore new places, and create lasting relationships with incredible humans.

Each of these specialties/passions, at one point in my journey, saved my life. When I was going through my darkest times (trauma, loss, etc.) one of these passions (dance, clothing design, yoga) would give me something to focus on and eventually help me heal, allowing me to excel in that field and in life, making each goal reached even more special and personal. Regardless of my current situation (healing, growth, or prosperity) I believe it is my mission to share my knowledge and help others along their journey. I believe that is what truly sets me apart. The dedication to the people I come into contact with, to create a safe space for them to be themselves, to help guide them to live a life they will love and be proud of.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
It’s OKAY! It is okay to be YOU! It is okay to start over. It’s okay to change your mind. It is okay to be lost. But be CONFIDENTLY lost.

Go confidently in the direction of your choice and create a life that would make that little child inside of you proud.

If at any point you don’t live the direction you are going, it’s okay to switch directions.

No matter your current situation, you always have a choice… to stand still or MOVE!
