Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Tammy Ash

Tammy Ash shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Good morning Tammy, we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
I have been a professional hair stylist and nail tech for 36 years, but I’ve always refused to do feet! I swore that I’d never ever touch them
😅

But now I’m proud to announce that outside of being a nail tech, I am also a professional Medical Nail Technician or MNT for short!

As an MNT, I offer specialized medical-grade waterless pedicures, that go beyond standard massage and polish pedicures.

They are geared towards what you would normally see a podiatrist for, such as removing ingrown and or thick/long painful toenails & corn and callus removal. They are safe for diabetics and save a trip to the podiatrist as they can be done in your home or even your hospital bed.

For someone that swore off other people’s feet, I’ve came a long ways

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I am Tammy Ash, the owner of Designs by Ash LLC. I am a mobile hair and nail company that specializes in serving individuals with severe disabilities, including those with hospice, dementia, autism, and homebound conditions, as well as facilities and hospitals.

I provide hair care from cuts, perms, and color to the removal of severe hair matting. You don’t need to meet the criteria above for the dematting service; that’s available to anyone who needs my help.

I am also a medical nail tech, and I provide services you would normally see a podiatrist for in the comfort of your home or hospital room.

Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What was your earliest memory of feeling powerful?
My earliest memory would have to be when covid broke out. The day it was announced that the world was shutting down for at least 2 weeks, I knew it was going to be longer and it was going to be huge.

I also knew that if I wanted my business to survive it was up to me. I think this was the bravest moment I ever had, because on the middle of the world literally going into chaos, I called the governor’s office asking to become an essential company so I could continue to work. For the first time in my life, I felt powerful enough to do what I felt was right! I had worked to hard to lose everything so I fought for myself & it paid off bigger than I ever dreamed possible!

If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Your going to make it! You don’t need to be so scared of everything, it’s ok to put yourself out there cause you’re going to do amazing things when you stop being scared!

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Is the public version of you the real you?
Yes…. What you see is what you get with me. I’m a very passionate person about things I believe in and I don’t back down just to make others be ok with me. I treat my clients like family and they know that I always do my best for them. I’m the same while working as when I’m at home with my family. I try to make people feel a comfortable as possible that makes my job easier.

Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope they always talk about how much I love what I do for a living and how hard I fought to make my dreams come true. I want people to know without a doubt that my clients were important to me and I never gave up to get where I am today for them, regardless of how far I drive with my mobile company or how much of a toll it takes on me physically. I have dedicated my life to my career. It’s not a job, it’s my life.
