We’re looking forward to introducing you to Steve Myers. Check out our conversation below.
Steve, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: Have you ever been glad you didn’t act fast?
Yes, in the case of some personal stories and IP’s I’ve wanted to work on. If I had hurried the process, things would have been rushed, disjointed and never come together in the same way they are now.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey, my name is Steve Myers and I go by Skooba (SkoobasArt online). I’ve been a freelance artist for about 10 years now. I started my work in comics on a series called Battle For Ozellberg, written by Deon Brown and progressed to doing the lineart for Zaidura Chronicles, a webtoons series by CJ Martin. Now I’m currently working on my own stories, learning to make games, and doing various freelance work.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
Maybe anger, fear, possessiveness. As you get older you learn nothing is yours, nothing will be permanent. Treating things as temporary experiences truly makes the ego throw a tantrum. It doesnt appreciate the feeling of powerlessness, but in that knowing that one day everything will end, there’s is also a sense of freedom to not take as much seriously.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Often, especially now. Not out of lack of desire, but out of a sense of hopelessness that things will work. With ai, the rise of fascism, a terrible economy, its seems more impossible than ever to continue hoping for an art career right now. Every day you have to remind yourself any glimmer of hope makes things possible. Anything can turn around any second of any day now.
I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. Is the public version of you the real you?
No, not at all. I have taken some tests for various nuerodivergent ‘traits’ and find I mask myself a lot in public. Especially when it comes to make sure everyone is happy, in good spirits, etc.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If immortality were real, what would you build?
The same things I’m doing now. My own stories and creations, my own venting and hoping to push ideas and thoughts out into the world that might give people something to hold onto and relate….maybe a time machine too.
