Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Renée Kc of Kansas City Metro Area

Renée Kc shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.

Hi Renée, thank you so much for taking time out of your busy day to share your story, experiences and insights with our readers. Let’s jump right in with an interesting one: What battle are you avoiding?
I’m not avoiding any battle. To avoid a battle is to live in fear, fear of failing or even fear of succeeding. We all face challenges, but avoiding them only keeps us stagnant and confused. I’ve already gone through my season of being fearful of both success and failure, and I refuse to go back! There’s no reward without risk. Even if something doesn’t work out the way I hoped, it’s still a win—because I learned, grew, and can keep moving forward.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Renée, and I’m the founder of LUVA, a creative brand built on the mission “For the luv of all things creative!” LUVA is more than just a business—it’s a movement rooted in creativity, community, and self-expression. What makes LUVA unique is its versatility; we don’t limit ourselves to one lane. From merchandise and fashion design to photography, videography, creative direction, and events, LUVA is about building spaces and experiences that inspire people to embrace who they are while feeling hope and love in the process.
We’re also deeply about community and coming together—LUVA was created to be a hub where creativity connects people, not just a brand you buy from. Soon, we’ll be releasing our own fashion pieces and merchandise, alongside digital products, a quarterly magazine, and LUVA Society—our creative community where members can connect, collaborate, and grow together.
LUVA is special because it isn’t just for me—it’s for everyone who values creativity and wants to be a part of something bigger.

Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is the one I have with myself. I truly believe you can tell a lot about a person by how they treat themselves. Learning to prioritize that relationship has been the foundation for everything else in my life. It’s allowed me to do the inner work, confront my fears, and step into the best version of who I am becoming.
I know I’ll never be “perfect,” but I’ve embraced being perfectly imperfect. For me, it’s about showing up for myself every single day—whether that means being disciplined, staying consistent, giving myself grace when I fall short, or pushing myself when I know I can do better. That balance of self-love and accountability has shaped my confidence, my creativity, and the way I show up for others.
Because at the end of the day, the way I nurture my relationship with myself sets the standard for every other relationship in my life.

Is there something you miss that no one else knows about?
Something I miss that no one really knows about is the freedom of being under 18—when people were more open to learning, making mistakes, and even failing. Back then, it felt as if growth was expected, but as adults, society often treats failure as shameful, as if once you reach a certain age you’re supposed to have it all figured out.
The truth is, we never stop learning. Every moment we’re on this earth is an opportunity for growth, whether we’re 18, 25, 40, or 78. I miss that openness—the grace we gave ourselves and each other to stumble, learn, and keep moving forward without the heavy pressure of “perfection.”

I think our readers would appreciate hearing more about your values and what you think matters in life and career, etc. So our next question is along those lines. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
A project I’m committed to, no matter how long it takes, is building LUVA into a global creative movement. LUVA isn’t just a brand—it’s a belief that creativity and community can change lives. I’m committed to creating spaces, experiences, and opportunities where people feel free to express themselves, connect with others, and be inspired.
Whether it’s through fashion pieces, merchandise, photography, videography, our quarterly magazine, or LUVA Society, my mission is to keep expanding LUVA into something that truly touches people worldwide. I know it won’t happen overnight, but I’m dedicated to the process—because LUVA was built to last, and to spread love in every form of creativity.

Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
Yes, absolutely. I believe being both an artist and an entrepreneur requires giving your best, even when no one is watching or praising you. So much of the journey happens behind the scenes—late nights, trial and error, small wins, and lessons learned. People usually only see the finished product, not every step, sacrifice, or moment of doubt it took to get there.
For me, the work itself is the reward. Recognition is nice, but it’s not the driving force. What matters is knowing that I showed up fully, put my heart into what I created, and kept pushing forward regardless of who was paying attention.
