We recently had the chance to connect with Lacey Binns and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Lacey, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal weekday for me:
5:30-6am Wake up, check emails and notifications from my phone. Add anything to my to-do list that comes from those.
6:15 am My son wakes up and we watch a cartoon together and chat for a few
6:30 am Get the dogs outside and fed, get a quick snack/breakfast for my son, then I jump in the shower and get dressed/ready for the day.
7:40 am Make coffee and breakfast
8:00 am My son’s nanny arrives and I sit down at my desk for the workday. I always start my day looking at what’s on my calendar for that day and the next few to come and jot out a to-do list of the things I want to accomplish within that day. I work a full 9-5 so that is my focus while I have someone at home watching Beckham. This is when I’m taking meetings or calls and getting anything done that needs my full focus.
5:00 pm Time to make dinner! I love cooking for my family and so does my husband. We are often cooking together while Beckham plays. This is when I stop checking in on anything for my 9-5.
5:30-7:00 pm Family time
7:00-8:00 pm Beckham’s shower, read books, family language practice (French or Spanish)
8:00 pm Bedtime for Beckham
9:00 pm I’m headed to bed, too! Because I wake up early and start doing, I head to bed early, too.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Lacey, a Midwest girl with a love of shopping and styling. I started Life Without Louboutins in 2018 as a space for sharing ideas and fashion for women who want to cultivate a stylish life on a budget. I love playing with personal style and encouraging others to do the same. Every woman deserves to feel confident and beautiful in her own skin!
I have worked for brands including Kate Spade, Ann Taylor, Aldo, and Tiffany & Co. I love going to Kansas City Fashion Week each season as a media partner for their shows to see up-and-coming designers and sharing their work with my audience.
I work a 9-5 as a project manager and enjoy blogging in my spare time. It is a great creative outlet for me that allows me to focus on my love of fashion and style.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What breaks the bonds between people—and what restores them?
Communication.
It works both ways, too. Poor communication can break bonds, as well as strengthen or restore them. If you are afraid of honest conversations, avoid them, or just altogether don’t have them, the bonds you have with people deteriorate and eventually extinguish entirely. If you can’t find the strength to overcome that, you will have to reconcile the fact that those relationships could be completely lost.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Keep trusting your gut. Some of the biggest decisions in life that many would take a lot of time to mull over are the ones I have made in the quickest time. For example: I toured a house in a new construction neighborhood one day, went home with the paperwork and showed it all to my husband, sat down and mathed out the costs, and told him we are buying. I then went back with him the next day and signed to build our current home. It was maybe the second neighborhood we had looked at, but I knew from the minute I walked out of that tour that we were signing. More of those moments have happened in my life, and they have always led to great things. I try to remember those moments and carry that mentality forward when I am making decisions. (Easier said than done sometimes).
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I recently listed to a podcast where Bozoma Saint John was being interviewed about her career in marketing, her life, her beliefs, etc. The way that she spoke to confidence at the core of everything in her life was inspiring. Being so truly in love with yourself and confident in who you are is such an immense strength in life and in business. I am doing more to focus in on that in my own life.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What will you regret not doing?
Taking time out any chance I get in any given day for my family. Any time my son asks for a snuggle or to read a book together, I stop and do that with him. Those are moments and requests that are not promised to you. Spend the time with the ones you love without regret or fear that you’re ‘missing out’ on something else. If you choose the other thing, you will be missing those moments.
