We’re looking forward to introducing you to Heather Guier. Check out our conversation below.
Hi Heather, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I love spending time with my 2 kiddos. Kylie who is 4 and Colt who is 2. They keep me busy!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello! I am Heather and I am the owner of Cottonwood Photography. I specialize in newborn, maternity and high school senior sessions. I also will do just about any other type of photoshoot you toss at me! I just love it all! I try to make each session a unique experience. it’s not just about making money, it’s about making memories. I love connecting with new people and this is a sure fire way of doing that! I am so blessed to have so many returning clients every year, and referrals from them. It means the world to me when I hear “so and so told me you are absolutely amazing.” It warms my heart especially on those days where imposter syndrome creeps its way in and makes me doubt myself!
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My parents. They are both two of the hardest working people I know. They taught me to work for what I want. They are both go getters and amazing examples. Even today as they are both retired, they are still always busy doing things.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
Don’t be too hard on yourself. Mistakes are meant to happen and you will learn from them. Grow from them, and be better because of them.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What’s a belief or project you’re committed to, no matter how long it takes?
Teaching women to love themselves no matter what. I try that through my boudoir photography. To empower women of every shape and size that they are beautiful just the way they are.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
Absolutely doing what I was born to do. First off being a stay at home mom is one of the most fulfilling careers out there. But I also was born to do photography. It’s not just a passion, it’s my life. I love every second of it.
