We recently had the chance to connect with Christina Hodges and have shared our conversation below.
Christina, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hello, I’m Christina Hodges—the heart and vision behind LaniKai Photography. Since 2017, I’ve transformed moments into immersive fantasy experiences in Gardner, KS. I’m the owner, operator, and creative force behind every session.
My photography specializes in:
– Fantasy photography
– Cosplay
– Boudoir and pinup
– Magical storytelling that escapes reality and invites imagination
I don’t just take photos; I create experiences. My “dress up box” is a treasure trove of wardrobe, props, and backdrops featuring wizards, witches, fairies, and a host of characters you’d find in stories. Whether you’re looking for a whimsical portrait, a character-driven cosplay shoot, or a bold boudoir session with a fantastical twist, I tailor each session to your vision.
If you’re seeking more than just family photos—if you want a cinematic escape into a world of your own design—LaniKai Photography is here to bring that dream to life.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. Who taught you the most about work?
My mother’s unflagging work ethic and unwavering determination shaped who I am today. From long night shifts to early mornings walking us to school, she modeled resilience every day. She balanced work, family, and education—earning degrees while continuing to build her dream. She started a catering company after saving up, leaving the corporate world behind, and has run it for over 20 years. I learned perseverance, dedication, and the power of chasing a dream from her.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering has been a greater teacher than success. It has shown me how to stay humble, cultivate empathy, and carefully consider opportunities—prioritizing what I genuinely want to do over what merely offers financial reward. I believe true success isn’t defined by money, but by the integrity with which we pursue our purpose and the resilience we build along the way.
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
The public me is the same as the real me: goofy, warm, and easy to talk to. I’m social, love meeting people, and I’m not afraid to laugh at my own self. That’s exactly why I gravitate toward photography that lets your fun, creative side shine.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I’ve always believed in seeing people—not just their roles or photos, but their worth and humanity. I cared for my clients, colleagues, and community, listening to their lives and dreams. I dreamed big and worked tirelessly to turn those dreams into reality. Even in moments when progress stalled, I persisted, because surrendering would have dimmed the spirit I bring to every session. This is the heart behind LaniKai Photography: care, ambition, and unyielding resilience.
