We recently had the chance to connect with Bonnie Still and have shared our conversation below.
Bonnie, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I’m a morning person so I’m up fairly early for breakfast, exercise and I enjoy doing online crosswords or puzzles. Around 9am is the scheduled playtime for our 3 cats- Twyla, Moira and Alexis. They know it’s time and make sure I don’t forget! That lasts about 20 minutes and then they get their snack and maybe some mental stimulation to make their day more interesting. After that I am either meeting with a client, working on a Behavior Modification plan or watching webinars. After lunch, if the afternoon is free I spend my time quilting which is very relaxing. Once my husband gets home from work it’s time to prepare supper and then we relax with the cats watching tv.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Bonnie Still and I am the Owner/Consultant of Real World Cat Consulting, LLC. My goal is to help people and their cats when the cat is behaving inappropriately or the client is misunderstanding the cat’s needs. I offer a Behavior Modification Plan but just as important, I provide guidance and support as the Plan is being used. Cat behavior or cat training is still fairly unknown to the general public so this is a unique and exciting career to be involved in.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who taught you the most about work?
My Father taught me the most about work. He had his own franchise of restaurants and I was taught the importance of doing a job the best you can. I learned how to work with people no matter the mood they were in. Working with different personalities, being patient, being helpful, being organized, reliable and listening to others was very important.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one kind thing to my younger self, it would be “Don’t worry so much about every little thing. Things always work out. Be patient and work on what you can. If it’s out of your control that is ok, just let it go”.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
My closest friends would say what matters to me the most is spending time with my husband, our pets and helping cats in shelters and in their homes.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I believe I am truly doing what I was born to do. As a child I originally wanted to be a Veterinarian until I realized it wasn’t about playing with animals. I have always loved animals and wanted to be around them. I always found psychology interesting so now I can put that and my love of animals together. I love figuring out the best way to help clients and their cats, as well as the root of the problem.
