Abigale Sleezer shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Hi Abigale , thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What’s more important to you—intelligence, energy, or integrity?
Integrity. In my business, clients trust me with some of the most important moments of their lives, and there’s no redo. Skills and creativity matter, but without integrity, they don’t mean much. Integrity is what keeps me delivering on promises, treating every wedding with the same care as if it were my own, and showing up fully for my couples even when it’s hard. Intelligence and energy help me grow and create, but integrity is what ensures my work has meaning and impact.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
I’m Abigale, a Kansas City based wedding photographer and filmmaker capturing timeless, emotional, and story-driven moments. My style blends fine art with candid storytelling, using natural light to preserve not just how a day looked, but how it felt. I’m passionate about creating an effortless, personal experience for my couples, whether it’s a local celebration or a destination wedding across the world.
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. What did you believe about yourself as a child that you no longer believe?
As a child, I believed I had to make everyone happy to be loved or accepted. Over time, I’ve learned that people-pleasing only dims your own light. Now I know the right people will value me for who I truly am, not for how much of myself I give away.
What did suffering teach you that success never could?
Suffering taught me patience, perspective, and the ability to keep going when things feel impossible. It showed me that my worth isn’t tied to my circumstances, and that even in the hardest seasons, there’s purpose being built beneath the surface. Success feels great…but struggle shapes you!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What truths are so foundational in your life that you rarely articulate them?
That time is precious and nothing is guaranteed. It’s why I value presence over perfection, both in life and in the way I document weddings. I rarely say it out loud, but it’s always there, shaping how I show up for the people I love and the moments I capture.
Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
Yes!! Those days are the ones that remind me why I started. I’ve felt that level of excitement walking into weddings where everything just clicks…literally. The couple, the energy, the light, the story I get to tell. It’s the same rush I felt as a beginner, but now layered with gratitude, knowing I’ve built a career where my “work” feels like a privilege.
