We recently had the chance to connect with Latisha Roby and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Latisha, thank you for taking the time to reflect back on your journey with us. I think our readers are in for a real treat. There is so much we can all learn from each other and so thank you again for opening up with us. Let’s get into it: What is a normal day like for you right now?
I would say a normal day for me right now is waking up , getting ready for the day with my hygiene and workout routines. Running whatever errands I need done for the day before work. Then going to work and starting all over again the next day. Of course dealing with clients with hair and sometimes life throws you curveballs so there’s also that. I pray daily as well so my life always stays blessed!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Latisha Roby. I am a braider / loctician in Kansas City mo as well as a Coach , entrepreneur and Lead at a warehouse. I own StyledbyTshe it’s a loc and braid business I started over 5 years ago however I’ve been doing hair forever it seems. lol I remember being a kid and wanting to stale all dolls hair. I coached at North Kansas City high school for almost 6 years with the 23rd street steppers. I recently just started my own step organization coming in the fall of 2026 which I am super excited about! I’ve always had a passion for kids!
Appreciate your sharing that. Let’s talk about your life, growing up and some of topics and learnings around that. Who taught you the most about work?
My father for sure taught me the most about work! He always kept a job or two or three and I am no different lol My dad made sure he always had money flowing in and I love that he showed me thisat an early age. He always told me you only gonna have yourself in the end so work for YOU! He always made sure I knew how to deal with life. He entered me into the young marines and that really taught me a lot.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Oh of course. In 2010 I was kicked in my face and suffered an orbital Blowout , Lower lid lacerations and Orbital floor fracture. I had to have two major surgeries. Life was not good for me at that time in general. I was always just not being true to myself and I lost my job , my place and everything around me burned down I never gave up tho. I felt ugly some days but it here beautiful as ever head always held high and always making sure I put in the work!
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Loyalty and trust and showing up for me! For us! I always wanna be there for people and I always expect the same! I know life happens sometimes and sometimes people can’t always be there for you but I like to think that in the times I truly need they would be there and vice versa! We’re adults so I get it.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Could you give everything your best, even if no one ever praised you for it?
I always do! I never want praise from anyone for anything I’ve done. I know I was successful at it and even if I wasn’t I TRIED that’s always what matters the most
I would diff redo high school. I wasn’t bad or a terrible student but I could have for sure put more focus in! And I just made poor choices after high school that I truly wish I could change. lol but haven’t we all done that?
