We’re looking forward to introducing you to Kenda Graves. Check out our conversation below.
Kenda, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Right now, I am being called to change. And who isn’t at least a little bit afraid of change? I’m learning to find the balance in all aspects in my life, to reserve my energy for people and things that are truly deserving, and to elevate my communication skills.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Kenda Graves and I am a traveling visual curator. I bring fresh, visually-driven storytelling to creative projects, highlight enthusiastic creatives, curate culture enhancing environments.
I tend to work with artists, content creators, and health & wellness professionals, although I remain open-minded and enjoy meeting new people.
I have been studying psychology and sociology for 10 years now, so my growing knowledge of the human brain is my secret weapon.
Okay, so here’s a deep one: Who were you before the world told you who you had to be?
It’s funny you ask this, because I believe I was who I was meant to be at a young age, and it was my environments that changed me. A part of the change I’m making now is going back to who I once was. Before people placed their opinions on me, I was confident, determined, and sensitive.
When did you stop hiding your pain and start using it as power?
I started to look at my testimony as a strength rather than a weakness when I realized it could help someone. I remind myself that sometimes this life isn’t just mine to live. A wise person can learn something from what I’ve been through and the mistakes I’ve already made.
Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Whose ideas do you rely on most that aren’t your own?
Without a doubt, I rely on God. It doesn’t even have to be a religious thing, it’s simply just a relationship. Someone to talk to, someone to rely on, someone that can be the reason behind it all. It takes off all the pressure on me and it’s refreshing.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. Are you tap dancing to work? Have you been that level of excited at any point in your career? If so, please tell us about those days.
That feeling I get when I help empower someone while working is something that will never get old. I love when I walk in a room with someone with my camera and phone already out, flashes on, making them the center of attention.
“You make me feel like Beyonce” is the biggest compliment I’ve ever received.
