We recently had the chance to connect with Julia Scott and have shared our conversation below.
Julia, a huge thanks to you for investing the time to share your wisdom with those who are seeking it. We think it’s so important for us to share stories with our neighbors, friends and community because knowledge multiples when we share with each other. Let’s jump in: What is a normal day like for you right now?
A normal day for me is definitely a mix of business and family life. I’m married and a mom of two, so our mornings usually start with getting everyone out the door, making breakfasts, packing lunches, and making sure no one forgot their homework! Once everyone is at school, I shift into business mode.
Most days include a hands-on organizing session with a client, whether I’m organizing a Kitchen, setting up a new home after a move, or helping someone declutter & downsize. If I have a little spare time before kids pick up, I’m answering emails, scheduling, ordering supplies, or working on social content.
Once the school day ends, it’s back to mom mode: homework help, dinner, and family time. After the kids go to bed, I’ll often spend a little more time prepping for the next day or catching up on anything that didn’t get finished. Every day looks a little different, but that’s what I love—there’s always variety, and I get to balance the two things that matter most to me: my family and helping clients create spaces they truly enjoy.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hi, I’m Julia Scott, the owner of Efficiently Neat, a professional organizing business based in Olathe, Kansas. I help busy families and professionals transform their homes into spaces that feel calm, functional, and easy to maintain. My approach is all about creating custom organizing systems that fit each client’s unique lifestyle.
What makes Efficiently Neat special is that we don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. I take time to understand how my clients live day-to-day, and then design spaces and systems that work with their routines, not against them. From tackling overstuffed closets to rethinking an entire home layout, every project is personalized so the results last.
I started this business because I’ve always loved finding order in the chaos and making spaces work more efficiently. Seeing clients go from feeling overwhelmed by clutter to feeling in control of their home is probably one of my favorite parts of this job!
Right now, I’m excited about expanding my team so we can help even more clients. By bringing on additional organizers, we’ll be able to take on larger projects, offer more availability, and keep delivering the personalized service that makes Efficiently Neat stand out.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What relationship most shaped how you see yourself?
The relationship that has most shaped how I see myself is with my grandma. She was fiercely independent, worked incredibly hard, and believed that women could do anything they set their minds to. Growing up, I watched her tackle challenges head-on and never shy away from learning something new. She carried herself with confidence and grace, and she made it clear that being capable and self-reliant was something to be proud of.
Her example shaped the way I approach both life and business. I strive to bring that same determination and independence into my work, finding creative solutions, pushing myself to grow, and never being afraid to take on new opportunities. She taught me that with the right mindset, there’s no limit to what you can accomplish.
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
If I could say one thing to my younger self, it would be: trust yourself and don’t be afraid to take the leap. As much as you really want to, you don’t have to have every detail figured out before you start… just start. Every challenge will make you stronger, every risk will teach you something, and you’re far more capable than you realize.
I’d also remind her that comparison is the thief of joy. Focus on your path, your own progress, and what truly matters to you, instead of measuring yourself against others. Trust me, you’ll be so much happier!
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
I am a big fan of Warren Buffett. Despite being one of the most successful investors in the world, he’s known for his humility, integrity, and down-to-earth attitude. He lives simply, treats people with respect regardless of their status, and consistently emphasizes thinking long-term instead of chasing quick wins. That steady, humble, and strategic approach is something I admire and hope to reflect in how I work and connect with others.
Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people remember me as someone who genuinely cared and made a positive difference in their lives… not just through my work, but in how I showed up: with kindness, honesty, and a willingness to help whenever it was needed.
Most of all, I want to be a role model for my two girls, showing them that women can tackle hard things, overcome challenges, and succeed on their own terms. I want them to see that success isn’t about perfection, but about determination, resilience, and believing in yourself, even when things get tough.
That’s the kind of story I’d be proud to leave behind!
