Today we’d like to introduce you to Tyara Edwin.
Hi Tyara, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I started dj’ing when I was 18 after getting a speeding ticket driving home from college. My dad made me DJ a sweet sixteen for the money and I just never stopped. I began my career at the University of Central Missouri dj’ing for the Greek Organizations and house parties which turned into larger parties in St. Louis. I eventually dropped out of college and pursued DJ’ing full time doing mostly private events. Since the start I have before an international, open format DJ that has worked mainstream stages and traveled to DJ for people of all kinds. Now, after year 12 I’ve decided to pursue all things events instead of focusing of solely DJ’ing. Out of Your Mind KC is a full service event company that can provide you with catering, decor, 360 Photo Booth services, event planning and entertainment.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
My biggest struggles along the way would have to be just navigating through a male dominated field as a young black woman. I have been tried MANY times. But I think at this point I’ve matured beyond even noticing certain treatment. I’m more in control of my environments and who is allowed in my space now.
We’ve been impressed with Out of Your Mind KC, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
This year, I really want to be a part of the process of making someone’s special day EXACTLY that. I used to feel so stuck behind the booth or stretched out trying to do all things at once when I decided to just make a career of running around like a chicken with my head cut off. As an event planner, I get to be everywhere I would like to make sure that things run efficiently. I’m most known for my music and entertainment background. Now using the connections I’ve built as a DJ to be a bigger force in the entertainment world. What I want people to know about my brand is that when you trust me with your life events, I will treat them as if they were my own. We will always do our best to give the best quality possible.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I am always looking to collaborate with like minded people. If you love to explore and experiment with creative ideas, we will be a perfect pair! My e-mail is the best way to reach me. [email protected]
