Today we’d like to introduce you to Titus Golden
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I was suffering from depression and really didn’t tell anybody. I was getting my haircut at (Straight line Barbershop) in Raytown Missouri one day and my barber (Jermaine Simmons) asked what is my purpose in life. He asked me this for about 4-5 years and I never had a response. I went home and prayed about it which God showed me this business in a dream but I was already defeated because I figured I could not compete with the bigger brands but God told me you not here to compete but you going to show people how his grace and mercy work. After sitting on the dream for two weeks, I was at a restaurant with my fiancé when I saw this drunk guy from across the room. I really can’t stand drunks so I was hoping he didn’t come bother me. A hour later here comes the drunk bother me. He introduced himself to me and told me people are going to read about me because God just gave you something huge. Now I had no idea how he knew that but God…… from that moment “Ozell Brand” was born.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
No not at all. I’ve been in so many meetings with investors who laughed in my face and did not believe in the mission of the brand. Finding the right manufactures was very difficult. I read the story of every major shoe brand and studied a lot. Starting off I lost $3,000 in finding a good manufacturer that understood our goals.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
Im the owner/CEO of Ozell Brand. We make affordable shoes/ sports cleats for all youth and adults. I’m very excited that we’re able to get our football cleats sold at Walmart.com in the (USA). Recently Walmart headquarters extended Ozell Brand to Walmart.com in (Mexico). We are known for custom shoes (bulk orders and teams shoes).
What were you like growing up?
Growing up I was a sports kid, always like being outside in the neighborhood. I was raised in a single parent home by my mom. At a young age my mom was robbed and shot and nearly lost her life. This caused a cycle of trauma. I was physically, sexually, and mentally abused by close relatives and really tore me apart as I got older. When I reached high school (Raytown South High School) I thought about committing suicide because my mom was struggling her husband left us and we were in a bad situation. I graduated in 2006 and the day after graduation we lost our house and vehicles (hitting rock bottom) and had to start over in life. I did not attend college I was on a mission. When I was 16 years old I was roughed up by several officers falsely accusing me of a robbery in Kansas. One of the officers told me I won’t amount up to “shit” in life. That started a shift in my mind to prove them wrong which I did. Once I graduated high school I applied for a civilian job with the police department and then I transferred to the police academy. Now I been with the police department since I was 18 and I’m 36 now. I’m a full time police officer and a full time business owner 😁.
