Today we’d like to introduce you to Tatum Cooper
Hi Tatum, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My story has lots of twists and turns to get where I am. My path was never going to be traditional, at a young age I got sick and diagnosed with POTS (Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome) and that changed my trajectory in life indefinitely, Because of this I had to figure out how to follow passions that respected my bodies limitations. I became a Realtor and learned so much about staging, and what makes a home a home. I have always been drawn to more creative outlets and when I dreamed of combining my real estate background and my love of plants it just made sense. Plants proved so many added benefits to spaces that we can and cannot see, all from the aesthetic to air quality! Today I own Rooted Bliss Interiors, an interior plant design company that combines both human centered and evidence based design into creating your dream space with live plants minus all the hassle of install and maintenance.
I feel a passion to provide this option for those who don’t have the green thumb or the time to enjoy the serenity and benefits of being surrounded by plants.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every small business owner will tell you it is never a smooth road. There is rejection, learning curves, imposter syndrome and road bumps I know I’ve yet to encounter. My biggest struggle lately has been imposter syndrome in a field that is yet to be defined. Knowing you can do something is one thing but keeping thick skin while building up your own brand is a skill I am still learning. Not only imposter syndrome but marketing and financially building a business is not small task. You put in hours, sweat, tears, and money into a business that you believe in and have to trust yourself to make it happen. With all this said I am so proud of myself for showing up. No one is asked me to do this, I made this decision and I have to stick by it and trust myself to show up and put in the work. I am so lucky to have the support system I do that helps pick me up when I am down or feeling unsure of myself. Without them I wouldn’t be here trying and trying some more.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Rooted Bliss Interiors LLC?
At Rooted Bliss Interiors I offer interior plant design for various spaces such as retail stores, salons, and homes. As I grow my business I am exploring offering parties as well such as bridal showers, baby showers, and even plant design for weddings! My goal is to provide the greenery where people need it. There are few other businesses in the area that offer what I do, but what sets me apart is not only my Real Estate background and staging, when you hire me I provide a service that is as hands on or off as desired. I know that many people experience more stress with owning plants than joy. I want to show people the beauty of having plants without the worry of styling, install, or maintenance. My consultations go through everything from style, pet safety, window access, and all other necessary questions that make for the happiest healthiest environments not only for my clients but for the plants as well.
Right now I am most proud of my appearance in Annie Austen, a beautiful local jewelry brand. Working with Annie and her team has been a dream come true. They are such an empowering group of women that have created such an inspiring environment to work in. Along with Annie Austen in Zona Rosa, I will be spotted in their new store just across the street, Gifted! What I want people to know about my services/brand is this, I am so proud to be a young woman business owner and because of that I hold myself to a high standard knowing how privileged I am to have the opportunity to help others in the community through plants. When you work with me you’re not only supporting a small woman owned business, you’re making a self care choice for yourself by providing the style and health benefits that you deserve to have in your every day life.
Risk taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
I have never described myself as a “risk taker” necessarily but I will say I do find myself asking, “why not me?”. I believe in what I am doing and I know that what I have to offer is a desired service, if I don’t do it then I’ll just have to watch someone else live out my dream. So, why not me? If I have the ideas then all I have to do is trust them. Obviously that is easier said than done, however things have never been easy. Because of my chronic illness of 10+ years now, I have worked really hard to create the happiest, healthiest life for myself. Growing up with a chronic illness means working twice as hard just to be in the same room as healthy people. I know I can work hard and accomplish hard things, so why not accomplish something I am proud to be doing and wake up every day thankful to get to do it? I believe that risks are important to take. If you’re comfortable you’re not working hard enough. Risk leads to growth, and growth leads to success. I never want to stop growing.
