Inspiring Conversations with Tammy Barton of Illuminating the Soul

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammy Barton.

Hi Tammy, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My healing journey began 20 years ago when I decided I wanted to help others heal and enrolled in the Massage Therapy Program at the Massage Therapy Training Institute (now known as Wellspring School of Allied Health). I finished the program and officially became a licensed massage therapist and began practicing massage and bodywork in Kansas City.

I began discovering how the body holds stress, tension and trauma and knew I wanted to learn how to help release and heal the body, mind and spirit to help clients regain optimal health and I continued taking advanced classes, training and workshops to enhance my healing abilities beyond the scope of massage therapy to enable deeper levels of physical, emotional, mental and spiritual healing. My specialties include Cranio Sacral Therapy, Medical Intuition, Shamanic Healing and Soul Retrieval, Reiki Master, Spiritual and Intuitive Mentoring, leading spiritual retreats and workshops ~ in the United States and abroad for self-empowerment, healing and self-discovery.

I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle free, but so far would you say the journey have been a fairly smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road along the way. I have had my own personal struggles in opening my own business in 2008 during the financial crisis and persevering through the ups and downs and now, 13 years later I have a very successful business and am continuing to grow and expand and have created multiple levels of income for myself through bodywork, teaching, mentoring, private zoom sessions, creating my own artwork, sage sprays and photography. Another difficult time was when I became the primary caretaker for my father when he was battling leukemia. I still managed to see clients full time and wholeheartedly believe I have the best clients in the world with their patience and understanding spirits when I needed to shift or change an appointment time due to my father being in the hospital or needing assistance.

Even through my own personal struggles with life changes, transitions and transformations that have allowed me to dive deep into my own shadows and vulnerabilities, I have had to reach into my own healing toolbox and use the same healing techniques I invite my clients to use in their private sessions.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Illuminating the Soul?
Illuminating the Soul is a sacred space for personal growth, healing and transformation through ancient healing modalities, inspirational workshops, spiritual retreats, and retail therapy.

Tammy Barton, a Licensed Massage Therapist and Inspirational Artist, believes in approaching bodywork from a holistic viewpoint. She is well versed in many bodywork modalities including Swedish massage, Cranio-Sacral Therapy, Somato Emotional Release, Intuitive Massage, Aura and Chakra Balancing, Myofascial Release Technique, and Shamanic Journeying, Healing Work and Soul Retrieval. She believes in working with the body, mind and spirit as a collective whole through various bodywork and intuitive modalities. When appropriate Tammy uses crystals, essential oils and artwork in her practice to enhance the healing process.

Tammy graduated from the Massage Therapy Training Institute in Kansas City, MO in 2004, and has been a Massage Therapy Instructor at Wellspring School of Allied Health since May 2010. Tammy is always continuing her education by taking advanced classes and workshops throughout the country in Cranio Sacral Therapy, Shamanism and many more.

Tammy also develops curriculum and teaches life inspiring workshops and classes to empower your body, mind and spirit. She also loves to volunteer at Turning Point: The Center for Hope and Healing.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
The biggest risk I believe I have taken was leaving my full-time job at the Post Office in 2010 to start my own business and private practice. My parents thought I was crazy leaving a job that consisted of financial security, health insurance, life insurance and a retirement program. I was scared to death and I kept feeling the universe nudging me take the leap of faith and follow my heart with helping people heal. My motto was and still is now ~ ‘I will never know unless I try.’ Even with all of the ups and downs along the way, I have learned a lot and I can honestly say that I have a successful business and private practice and am still growing and expanding in so many ways. My parents, friends and family witnessed me taking risk after risk and following my heart and they are so proud of the work and success I have accomplished. I follow my heart and use my intuition to help guide me through each step and risk I take to become a better person, healer and business owner.
