Inspiring Conversations with Tamara Kesterson of Monarch Maids KC

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tamara Kesterson.

Hi Tamara, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Cleaning has always been personal to me. Growing up in a low-income family, my mom taught me that taking care of what you have is something to be proud of. A clean home wasn’t about perfection, it was about creating peace, respecting what we had, and finding joy in the little things. During difficult seasons of my own life, cleaning became more than a chore; it gave me a sense of purpose. When I eventually began cleaning for others, I realized I wasn’t just helping families care for their homes, I was healing parts of myself, too.

That realization became the foundation of Monarch Maids. I started the business as a stay-at-home mom with two young children, inspired by my experience working behind the scenes in the cleaning industry and believing there was room to build something deeply rooted in trust, communication, and genuine care. Today, my mission is simple: to create breathing room for busy families. I want every client to walk through their front door and feel a sense of peace instead of pressure. As a homeschooling mom and business owner, success to me isn’t measured only by growth, it’s measured by living out my values, serving my community with excellence, and showing my children that purpose is something you build one intentional step at a time.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The biggest obstacle I’ve faced hasn’t been competition or even the challenges of running a business, it’s been overcoming my own mindset. Entrepreneurship has stretched me in ways I never expected. When something went wrong, my instinct was to question myself instead of seeing it as part of the process.

Over time, I’ve learned that growth requires mistakes. Every setback has taught me something I couldn’t have learned any other way. Instead of chasing perfection, I’ve learned to focus on progress, trust my instincts, and keep moving forward even when I don’t have all the answers. That shift in perspective has been just as important to building Monarch Maids as any business strategy. Every step of the way I’ve had to evolve, shift, and change- and in doing so, I keep becoming a better version of myself I’m proud of.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Monarch Maids is a residential cleaning company serving families throughout the Kansas City area, specializing in recurring home cleaning for busy households. We believe a clean home is about more than appearances, it’s about creating peace, reducing stress, and giving families more time to focus on what matters most. We’re known for our attention to detail, dependable service, and personalized approach, building lasting relationships with clients who value trust, consistency, and exceptional care for their homes. My cleaners are the heart of Monarch Maids, and I want them to feel genuinely cared for, respected, and proud of the work they do. When the people on our team feel supported, that care naturally extends into the homes we serve. As we continue to grow, my goal is to create more opportunities for women, especially mothers, who want meaningful work and income without having to choose between their careers and their families.

Any big plans?
Monarch Maids is continuing to grow by expanding into small offices, and residential post construction cleans throughout the Kansas City metro while remaining committed to the personalized residential service we’re known for.

For me, this is about more than just providing jobs, it is about creating real working opportunities that give women a sense of purpose, confidence, and independence. Many of the women I hope to employ are not just looking for income; they are looking for something that allows them to feel capable again, to contribute in a meaningful way, and to be part of something they can take pride in. A strong work environment can restore confidence, build routine, and remind someone of their value outside of the home, while still honoring the importance of their role within it. I want Monarch Maids to be a place where women feel seen, supported, and appreciated for the work they do, not just as cleaners, but as individuals building better lives for themselves and their families.

Looking ahead, one of my biggest goals is to grow Monarch Maids beyond our local community through innovative technology that simplifies booking, hiring, and training. My vision is to create an experience that makes finding trusted, high-quality cleaning services seamless for both clients and cleaning professionals, while maintaining the standards and values Monarch Maids was built on.
