Today we’d like to introduce you to Sydney Galamba.
Hi Sydney, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Ever since I was a little girl, I’ve been fascinated by the beauty industry. I loved everything about makeup, skincare, and the confidence that beauty can bring to someone. Even then, I knew I wanted to make people feel good about themselves.
After graduating high school, I decided to take a more traditional path and earned my bachelor’s degree in Interpersonal Communications with an emphasis in Hospitality and Tourism. While I’m grateful for that experience because it strengthened my communication skills and taught me how to connect with people, I graduated during the COVID-19 pandemic. I found myself questioning my path and realized I wasn’t pursuing what truly excited me.
That’s when I made the decision to follow the dream I’d had since I was young. I enrolled in esthetics school and fully immersed myself in the world of skincare. It felt like I had finally found where I was meant to be. What started as a childhood passion has grown into a career that allows me to help people feel confident in their own skin every single day.
Today, I own SKN.BY.SYD.KC, where I get to combine my passion for skincare with my love of helping people feel confident in their own skin. Looking back, taking that leap of faith was the best decision I could have made.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has helped shape me as both an esthetician and a business owner. I started my career at a corporate salon and spa, where I learned so much not only about skincare, but also about the seasonal ups and downs that come with the beauty industry. When the spa unexpectedly closed, I was faced with figuring out my next steps.
Instead of letting that setback discourage me, I took a leap of faith and opened SKN.BY.SYD.KC in February 2026. Starting my own business has come with its own challenges, especially building and maintaining a fully booked schedule. Thankfully, many of the clients I built relationships with at my previous job trusted me enough to follow me on this new journey. Their support has meant everything, and it continues to motivate me to provide the best experience possible for every client who walks through my door.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
At SKN.BY.SYD.KC, I offer personalized skincare and beauty services designed to help my clients look and feel their best. My services include customized facials, corrective skincare, spray tans, face and body waxing, makeup, lash lifts and tints, and brow laminations and tints.
What sets me apart is the personalized experience I provide. Every client receives a customized treatment plan based on their individual goals, and I take the time to educate them on how to maintain healthy, glowing skin. I’m most proud of creating a space where clients feel comfortable, confident, and genuinely cared for. My goal is for every client to leave feeling refreshed, empowered, and excited to come back.
Where do you see things going in the next 5-10 years?
Over the next 5–10 years, I think we’ll continue to see the beauty industry shift from being viewed as a luxury to becoming part of a regular wellness routine. Today, seeing an esthetician isn’t just about pampering it’s about maintaining healthy skin. I have clients ranging from middle school to their late 80s, which shows that skincare is becoming a priority for people of all ages.
I also think we’ll continue to see new treatments, technologies, and trends emerge at a rapid pace. Because of that, education will be more important than ever. Not every trend is right for every person, so I believe estheticians have a responsibility to help clients understand what will truly benefit their skin. The future of the industry will be centered around personalized care, education, and long-term skin health rather than quick fixes.
