Today we’d like to introduce you to Paul Joy.
Hi Paul, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I became a paramedic 21 years ago and started working on the KCK fire department in 2005. In 2011, I was promoted to fire apparatus operator. I returned to school and earned my associate’s degree in nursing. In 2014, I became an RN doing home health. I then started studying for the Captain’s promotional exam and became a Captain in 2017. I returned to school and earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. In 2021, I received a master’s degree as a Family Nurse Practitioner. I really wanted to start my own practice and established my LLC, Joy Health and Wellness, on November 15, 2022. I started the business from my home office until I rented an office in Lansing that I shared with an orthopedic surgeon and an allergist, MD. I rarely saw patients in the office because I mostly did telehealth from home. In April 2025, I took the leap and opened the office on Johnson Drive. I still work full-time as a Captain/Paramedic. I also have seven facilities in Missouri that I round at once or twice a month with 20-25 patients in each facility as their primary care provider. I have 165 patients in those facilities under my care. Joy Health and Wellness has 634 patients who are seeing me for primary care, hormone replacement therapy, medical weight management, and peptide therapy. I have three full-time employees and three part-time employees. I am the only advanced practice provider for my patients. I am very busy all day and night caring for my patients, but it is a passion of mine. I research every day to stay ahead of the ever-changing medical landscape. I absolutely love what I do.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has been a very arduous journey where I had to figure things out as I went by, getting up early and staying up late. Starting a business from scratch and doing things differently from other practitioners has been difficult, but I love challenges.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Joy Health and Wellness?
Joy Health and Wellness is not like other practices. We pride ourselves on doing more for our patients by answering calls and texts at all hours, weekends, and holidays. When a patient texts us at 5:30 a.m. with a UTI, we immediately send in a prescription so that they don’t have to suffer. When a patient calls us at midnight on a Saturday with a nasty infection, we answer and address the problem. We specialize in hormone therapy, medical weight loss, peptide therapy, and high-quality supplements. We order specialty labs, such as genetic, allergy, and heavy metal tests. We develop meal plans and exercise routines. We have accounts with over 30 pharmacies and labs. Our patients do not have to come to the clinic for visits unless they request it, and we deliver medications directly to their homes at no additional cost. Our communication and speed are the main topics of our Google reviews. We are always polite and knowledgeable.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
I feel happiest when patients feel cared for and know they are not just numbers to us. It gives me joy to help people feel younger and better about themselves.
