Today we’d like to introduce you to Pancho Metz.
Hi Pancho, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
During the pandemic, I learned how to film and edit videos for entertainment and commercial purposes. However, I have always been fascinated by freezing a lively moment in a still image. That fascination only grew when I joined my high school journalism department. Throughout my assignments, I strengthened my composition and storytelling skills. That experience also highlighted my enjoyment of photographing events and politics. After graduating high school, I the commercial environment to help other businesses and political campaigns with their marketing. Now, I specialize in event photography for businesses, organizations, and nonprofits, as well as marketing services for political campaigns.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Entrepreneurship is like flying. Sometimes you get clear skies and other times you get jolted by midwestern thunderstorms. Nevertheless, you continue to your destination regardless of deviation.
My largest challenge is competing with older and more established photographers. Even though I am reliable, I deliver quality work, and try to be as personable as possible, very few people know me.
That being said this challenge is a reminder not to focus on others, but to make myself better than the photographer I was yesterday. this ensures that I am at my best during every project I work on.
As you know, we’re big fans of Media by Pancho. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
My mission is to create media for marketing and my vision is to bring art to life. My specialty is event photography for business and marketing for political campaigns. I am known for my use of composition and framing to put the viewer inside the moment. I use my camera as a window to show the moment. What sets my work apart is the immersion it creates for the viewer. Whether it is through color, composition, or content, I want people to see/hear/smell/feel what the event was like.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Learn to interpret a situation and adjust if/when necessary. In my opinion, being able to pivot is the most valuable business skill.
